I can't predict when I have the time to post a new blog, but check occasionally. I'm going to try at least weekly.

Not on purpose.

Song of the day: “The bad touch” by the Bloodhound Gang…I know, how embarrassing, right? Ya can’t stop the brain from doing what the brain does can ya? Hah. Not that it is a bad song, or anything, but whenever it is going through my mind, I feel as if I should be blushing, or something.

But, anyways…I really haven’t decided about doing this blog only once every three days, but yesterday I just didn’t manage to get around to it, for some reason…at least not without sacrificing some much needed sleep, which I wasn’t willing to do for some peculiar reason. Hah.
I’m still on the fence, so the speak, so until I know for sure I’m going to try to dutifully write these things every other day…except for today, where I’m a day late, darn it.

Okay, so what’s been keeping me so busy…I don’t know where to start, really. We’ve got a friend staying over for a week, which meant that the younger sibs spent most of their afternoons cleaning and painting our guestroom. I, in the mean time, made boxes for storage and worked the yard, of course.

Yesterday big brother and I had the pleasure of cooking a meal made solely out of our own veggies (like today) that meant that we had a fully green salad, with fresh herbs, yay. Chard made by big brother, and big disks of zucchini with cheese and fresh herbs on top…all of it baked to a crisp in the oven by yours truly.

The way I figure is, if we’re the ones brining in the harvests, we should also take the time every once in a while, to actually cook the stuff. If you don’t do that, you miss an entire step of the process and that’s a shame. I mean, seriously, there is something about plucking stuff, carrying them up, washing them, cutting them and then cooking them before you consume the food they make up. If you don’t, you’re just a pack creature, who brings food somewhere and then waits to be fed. Half the pleasure is going through all the motions, I’ve found.

Besides, we had fun with the making. Lots of talk, lots of laughter, so it was definitely a successful meal.
Today we’re getting our first home grown potatoes, red beets, onion and leek. Gawd my mouth is watering at the prospect. Change of topic please.

Right, edits: they’re going slow again, but steadily. Seeing that we now water the plants late in the evening, well past eight in the afternoon and don’t finish until ten at least, we’re taking my computer outside so we can work while watering. We’ve done it twice now and it’s working well enough…an average of three pages, I think.

Lots of planting going on too, I’ve put in pumpkins, zucchini, melons, cantaloupes and onions. New seeds went into pots too…and no, I won’t bore you with each individual kind, hah…and as of today we are once again turning earth, because we want to put in more potatoes and such.
Which reminds me, the melons and green beans up in the old horse paddock are doing great!

The new load of dog food arrived yesterday, and due to the fact that everyone pitched in I could do only three trips before all the 40 pound bags were down, drat! Seeing as our guest was sleeping in we spent the majority of the morning up by the carport, so while big brother and grandpa sawed beams for the balustrade around the basin, I spent a couple of hours cleaning up and making room for adequate moving space.

Tenant joined us several times again, though she fears otherwise, her stride is becoming more certain and far stronger than it was. I try to tell her as much, but when she’s feeling a little down she refuses to believe it, of course. Ah well, the down-ness too will pass, I’m sure.

Luckily, the younger sibs, tenant and mom are keeping our guest company, so that means that big brother and I can continue working. Sure, it is fun having an excuse to take it easy, but on the overall, I rather not risk letting go of the present routine; we’re getting a lot done after all.

The dogs aren’t particularly liking the late night watering sessions, they’ll be looking all miserable by the fence, whining occasionally and everything. Yesterday we actually stopped early because of them, rather than risk POing the entire neighborhood.
Poor things.

There were several hauling trips, rock, sand…yes, I used shoveling it in and out of the car as a proper exercise, hah…and other necessities. Soon we’re going to have to get new cement because that outside kitchen is really starting to be essential.

But anyways, I’ve got some messages to deal with, maybe another short edit and then a three hour trip to the city for middle sister’s computer. The dude said there was something wrong with the warranty, and rather than trying to figure things out over the phone (which never works) we’re heading over there.

I’ll be back. Hah.

Page fill!

Song of the day: “So far so good” by Bryan Adams, and so many others that I’m not even going to bother writing them all down. Seriously, my brain has been hopping from one theme song to the next every hour at the very least, and it has been bothering me to no end. Make up your friggin’ mind already! Jeez!

First thing’s first; I’m seriously contemplating shifting this whole blog thing around and only doing it once every three days, I know, that is like slacking, but every time I write for this it goes out of something else I should be doing. I’m not sure yet, but I am definitely playing with the idea.

Considering yesterday was just grocery shopping day (yep, just refer to any of the days involving the same thing, and you’ll get the general idea) and then watering the garden afterward, I’m not going to bore you with the details but see if I can scrounge up some sort of writing, or poem from my files and leave you with that.

I will add that today we harvest eight zucchinis. I’ve already eaten from them and they were bloody delicious. Okay, some page fill.

Oh yes, I read they at my book club and had a blast with them.

When insults had class…:

“These glorious insults are from an era before the English language got boiled down to 4-letter words.

He said, "If you were my wife, I'd drink it."

"That depends, Sir," said Disraeli, "whether I embrace your policies or your mistress."

"I've had a perfectly wonderful evening. But this wasn't it." - Groucho Marx”

Well, that was it for today. I’ve got to make up for yesterday without edits, so I’ve got some work to go through.

The bright side...

Song of the day: “The bright side of life” by…well that dude in “the Life of Bryan”…eighties Monty Python movie, right?

Okay, the past couple of days…nothing too exciting; I got an email telling me that middle sister’s computer will be fixed under the warranty, so, yay! Definitely positive news that.

Alexxander (Mom’s Cocker Spaniel) is doing better, and is once again making a nuisance of himself, hah.

The day before yesterday we had an absolutely splendid edit. We managed a bloody total of 12 pages in three or four hours (definitely Yay!) of a scene that worked really well, (double Yay!) only to have yesterday go absolutely abysmal. Yuck! Seriously, you’d think the scene was downright awful (which I’m pretty sure it wasn’t) for the slowness with which we went through a measly three pages. At the end of the day’s session I was genuinely ready to scream.

Luckily there was lost of other stuff going on to keep me busy: the banister over the basin is almost up (I’m taking picture, of course), I made three large storage boxes of wood to store our spare towels and sheets in. Though the lids still need to be made, they’re looking good, and are definitely the right size.

Little brother and sister went to the market yesterday, but something had gone wrong with the reservations of their place, so they were back within an hour or two, a tad annoyed. Can’t say I blame them. Let’s just say their dogs were ecstatic by the time they returned.
Both of them, and middle sister spent the remainder of the day clearing out the pool guest-room because we’re going to have a friend over for a week or so, which means that we have to take out the storage, treat the water damage this winter left and make the room look at least clean and hospitable.

Though friend in question says that all she really needs is a bed, it is of course not done to have the room in a mess. Manners are such a pain, hah.

Dogs, though ecstatic with the wonderful weather of late, the dogs are rapidly gathering a multiplying amount of ticks, meaning that soon we’re going to have to fill the pool bottom for an anti parasite bath. We’ll have to pick a nice day for…well, all days are nice now, so we really can just do it any day now.

Tenant managed another trip down the mountain and then halfway up again with only my arm and her cane for support. Her caretaker is a little worried about her progress being so very slow, but considering that a couple (or three) months ago, she barely managed to get to my veranda, I’m pretty pleased with the progress. Heck, just yesterday the almost managed to wash herself on her own, which is definitely a first. Also, she is determined to help out one of these days by painting…which would be splendid for her, I think; it’ll make her feel useful.

Okay what else…ah yes, I spent some time going through our stack of quick step floor parquet, soon we should have enough to do a floor. Soon I’m also going to have to do the same with our supply of tiles, ‘cause they’re a mess right now.

The two agents I sent the query letter to informed me that they had to pass on saving Nina, but the last one did advice me to try with any one of her colleagues, who might be interested in the story…so, keeping my fingers crossed on that one.

Other than there were messages of a less serious note to deal with, some Amazon chats to enjoy and just everyday life, such as getting a new batch of sand, (I managed the unloading of 2000 pounds within my personal record of twenty minutes, yay) a scavenge, and several harvests.

Take today for instance; we’re having homegrown fresh spinach, leek, iceberg slaw, chard, onion, fresh herbs, a handful of green beans and a broccoli. Excellent, in my opinion, not to mention the handful of strawberries big brother and I found and then secretly ate for breakfast on toast. Gawd, they were delicious, and even thinking of them now, I’m starting to salivate all over again. Hah.

Well, that’s all she wrote for today. Time to get to the edit.
