Change in plans...yay!

Song of the day: “This woman’s work” by Kate Bush. Had it before, will have it again, I’m sure. Good song, though, so no matter.

I’m running way behind. The days just seem to be too short, and I find I’m incapable of getting everything I want to do done, darn it.

But anyway, good news first (for me good news anyway). There has been a change in plans on the writing front. Yes, yes, yes! After long deliberation and a shared dislike for the plot based story, big brother and I came to the agreement to start on a different story, rather than the one we’ve been struggling with for the past four or five days. Seriously, that many days, ten pages of data, and nothing to show for it with any actual writing. I was getting downright depressed, and while we were watering the plants last night, we decided to just ditch the primary plan and go with something a little more stimulating. Gawd, I’m so happy. I wrote three pages this very afternoon, and already inspiration is bubbling up in my head demanded to be unleashed. I started with a dream scene, and it plays in the late 1800s, so there’s plenty of atmosphere to work with. I love it. Just writing those few pages, had me go through five “Oh, I had no idea that was going to happen” moments. LOVE IT. Hah. Even now I’m regretting the fact that I have to write this blog, otherwise I could have done another piece right now. But okay, there’s fun and there’s a promise I made to myself some odd four years ago about doing this blog thing. Hah. There will be more writing days, I assure you. We’re going for a 100.000 word book, so I’ll have plenty of space to let my imagination go bonkers.

Okay, let’s get down to business. Yesterday, after the usual chores in the morning, including feeding the dogs, it was out to town to pay for the Opel’s insurance. Gawd, that made a fine dent in our savings…and then we’re not even talking about the electrical bill we will be getting some day soon. Yep, after four years of estimates that were about half the real price, we’ll be getting a real one because the meter guy arrived. *sigh* The power company here in Spain is really bonkers, in case you’re wondering. They just send you too low bills (probably to save on having to pay the meter guy, or something) and then suddenly slam you with a bill a mile higher.

There were a handful of groceries to get, but then we were rushing back home to get started on the day. Around one in the afternoon I got down to the basin terrace where I first spent about half an hour cleaning up the field kitchen. It was a bloody mess, and the dishes were a mile high, so it was really necessary.
That done, we did some Spanish, which, for some inexplicable reason didn’t go at all well yesterday. *sigh*

No matter though, right after we got to work on the thriller, but ended up displeased with all the data cluttering up the getting to know our characters. So, while watering, we had the big discussion and ended up deciding that enjoying what we’re writing is just as…if not more important than anything.

Was a little late getting to bed again, which meant I wasn’t my best this morning while going through the morning chores. Next it was time to go down for Spanish, and getting a simple plot written down. Did just that, and started writing. By the time I had to stop (an hour and a half, at most) to make supper, (cauliflower, broccoli and pasta with a cheese sauce) I was psyched about the progress made. This is the part about writing that I absolutely love. Creation. I tend to forget that part after editing for a solid five months or so. *sigh*

Little brother is going to go out for his exams on Monday, the day before his b-day, and he is mighty nervous. So afraid of not passing that he’s making it harder on himself than he has to. Ah well, nothing to change about that. He’s working hard enough to make it, so it should be fine.

The dogs are loving the change of the new fences that allow them to join us on the terrace. All afternoon they’ll be at our feet, snoring on occasion and basically just making a nuisance of themselves. In particular when I start cooking, I’ll have about ten of them getting in my way. Hah.

Tenant joined us again today, and she seemed happy sharing the cool spot. In fact, it was so cool that she asked for a more sunnier spot where she thoroughly enjoyed the heat for a good hour before she settled at the table to help by cutting veggies.

There was watering, and harvesting, and then we hung a cupboard in the field kitchen that grandpa made so we can store food away from the dogs and rodents. It took a moment, but by the time we were done there still was the dog food to cut and then heading out for a jog with Knight joining in (by jogging. Silly dog is just too big. I’m running flat out and he’ll be trotting along calm as you please. Sooooo mean!) and seemingly enjoying the exercise. I did better than the last time. Managed some full out running, a steady jog, and a fast clip walk up the steep incline. Not bad.

The rest of the dogs were mightily upset when we got home, but settled down fast enough, once we got the computers on and got to work on the last stretch of the day.

Okay, that’s it. Gotta go. I’m starving!

Disposal puppy

Song of the day: “Relax” by…I’m not entirely sure, actually. I better look that up…
Now that’s an oldie. I think that it’s even before my keep-track-of-the-top-40 days. *sigh* The good old days, eh?

The most prominent event of the past couple of days would definitely be the puppy. Nope, not one of ours, but the cute little golden retriever mix that we saw at the garbage bin last night while we were on our way home from our jog. We tried to harden our hearts, we really did. We dug through the garbage bin for food, fed him, left him some water, and then, with much difficulty left him there. He was so sweet. Not too scared yet, and let himself be picked up and everything. This doesn’t happen often with abandoned dogs. Usually they’re so scared , they’ll run off as son as you so much as look at them. But anyway, this one didn’t and he wasn’t too skinny yet.

Though we left him, this morning we were too bothered with the image and drove back to the garbage bin to see if it was still there. It was. Lying the shade of the big bin, and bounding toward us the moment I made kissy noises. No hesitation this time, he practically leapt into my arms, and I swear, if I didn’t have six dogs in my own pack already, I would have let myself be sold that very instant. But I do have six dogs that deserve attention as well, and what with at least eighteen of our dogs already getting on in age (and therefore getting an iffy immune system) it really isn’t a risk to take.

So we drove to the village, to our vet, and explained the situation. It is not an unfamiliar story for them there, and they of course understood that we couldn’t take it, so the little fluff is in a small cage now, waiting for the local shelter to come pick him up. I have little doubt that they’ll find a home for the little one. He’s adorable, fluffy, and looks like a golden retriever, so there really is no reason for me to feel bad about the entire thing…but of course I do. I was raised to care about little puppies, and feeling responsible for them, feeling their pain and wanting the best. Sometimes it’s a curse, and sometimes…well. No matter. I can only change the world one step at a time, right?

But alright. Back to the normal routine, shall we? Yesterday. What the heck did I do yesterday?
Well, the first part would be easy if there was only the normal routines, but nope, after laundry, chores and dog food, big brother and I went to the village to pay the latest humongous dog bill at the vet’s. With that done, we went to the vegetable distribution center, where we picked up the vegetables that folks over there can’t sell due to damage and such. Grandpa has formed a nice relationship with the fellas over there, and they give the stuff to him for free. Really good, that, now that we make our own food.

The usual boring morning chores followed. Then the dog food, and before you know it, it was time to head on down to the basin terrace and start on the book. Had some pretty heated conversations going, partly due to the fact that we sometimes have different tastes, have our imaginations head into different directions. Gawd it got heated. In fact I was seriously miffed at times and was once again battling the urge to conk big brother one. Grrr. The problem is, we are trying a different technique here. For the past twenty years or so I have been writing a particular way. I think of a character, start writing and then slowly discover where that very character takes me. Now, the characters are going to be secondary to the plot. First we’re writing an outline of the plot, then we’re going to put together a chapter by chapter outline, and only then the writing will actually start. Aaaargh. Sooooo frustrating. I like change, but I also hate it at times. *sigh*

Watered the plants, of course, cooked supper (white endive with oat patties on the side) and then went back into the yard to harvest the first batch of basil for drying in Grandpa’s new drying cupboard. It’s beautiful, by the way. I’ll have to take a pic and show you someday soon. Hah.

That done, dog food had to be cut while big brother worked on the finances. It was a bit of a rush job on both our parts because we wanted to go out on that jog I mentioned at the start of the blog. Managed to do about half a mile before some bug went down my throat making me almost chuck up my meal in an attempt to get it out. Seriously, the jog was going pretty darn well, and then suddenly all the fun drained right outta it. Next time better, eh? Then there was the puppy incident, followed by a rather late night.

Strangely enough I forgot to set my alarm, meaning that I didn’t wake until ten when big brother phoned me to inform me of the time. *sigh* I was running behind most of the day, and since we had to go out for the pup, it didn’t get any better. As soon as I got back home, I had to go out again because cousin Ed was out with the Opel, and Sally had to be driven to her doctor’s appointment. That meant I was out until one in the afternoon, darn it.

When I got back I came home to a mess. Big brother and grandpa had sawed down two small trees and a dead one. The latter for firewood, the others for new support beams down by the terrace. Now that the little fence has been fixed in place, and the open paths blocked, we’re taking the dogs with us to the terrace while we’re working on the computers there. They love it, in particular the part where they’re constantly in our way. *sigh*

But anyway, after doing dishes (including canning pots) and putting the washed pots in the pan for cooking them clean. We’re having a rather big harvest of zucchini this year, and since the freezer is already pretty full, I’ve decided to can them instead. Got fourteen bottle done today, seeing as we cut them during plot-lining, then cooked them, and put them in pots before the afternoon was over. Didn’t actually see tenant today, since she was out this morning, and afterward I was down the garden all day.

Did manage to cook dinner (fresh beets with potatoes) after which we headed down into the yard to water, and put stick sticks with the young pepper plants. The poor darlings are going so fast they’re getting too big to be able to stand on their own. Since grandpa took the time to cut about sixty sticks, we actually managed to support them all. Yay.
The wind by then was downright nippy. In particular since the sun disappeared. No matter, tough, by the time I got up to my cabin, I changed into sweats and warmed up really fast.

Now, I gotta hurry a little, seeing as I have to go out AGAIN tomorrow to pay for the Opel insurance, darn it. We’re hoping we’re back ‘round one so we can work on the books again, but seriously stuff like that has a tendency to take more time than planned. Well, gotta go.

Some groceries

Song of the day: “I want it that way” by The Backstreet boys, of course. Hah. Boy, has it been a while since I had those fellas spinning through my head. Then I am of course not talking about the song I had in my head this morning when I woke up this morning. *Looks around furtively, whispers* “I wanna be a millionare” by Travie McCoy. Had to look that up, by the way. Heard it on Radio Gibraltar, and though I don’t like it all that much, it does stick in my head every now and then. Hah.

So I’m getting way too little sleep at the moment. I know, I shouldn’t be whiny about it and just get to bed early, but sometimes, well, time just gets away from me sometimes and I can’t help it. Take yesterday evening, for instance, we were doing research on climate, population, culture and whatnot for the next book, and before you know it, it was three in the morning. (Blast it!) Research has a way of taking me off to other places. *sigh* Added to that, big brother was printing parts of the package we’re sending out soon, so that took a load of time as well.

I’m getting ahead of myself however. Caregiver was at her other job, so tenant was waiting for me when I came up. Helped her change, and then asked what she wanted to do. Since she hadn’t slept well the night before, she was convinced she wasn’t going to make it. Then, when I reminded her that last night she did sleep well, she agreed to come along to the basin terrace for the day. We walked down singing Doris Day songs, and she wasn’t at all tired when we got there. Then during the course of the day, doing some Spanish, then reading through the query and synopsis once more, and finally working on the new book again. Yay.

There were some fierce discussions about that, by the way, in particular since this is going to be a joined operation. Opposite thoughts about plot, characters and such. *sigh* Very frustrating, but we did figure out some key elements in the end. Yay. Same counts for today for that matter, but instead of working on the plot we started on the character list. It is a slow, almost tedious process that is vital if we wanna keep track of everything.

After that tenant and I did the dishes together, followed by a clean up of the field kitchen, which was getting to be high priority. Seriously, the place was a utter mess, but about half an hour later, it started looking decidedly better. That done, it was down into the yard to water the plants and get out the day’s dog food.

The evening was cooling off nicely by than, and I was most grateful by the time we slogged up the mountain to cut the dog food for tomorrow (well, today, in this case) before sitting down for that last bit.
Like I said I was late so…let’s fast forward, shall we? Zzzzzzzzzzrrrrrrrrr….

But anyway, there was laundry to do this morning, of course, followed by the feeding of the dogs at which point we continued with the printing. Something was off with the printer, however, meaning that even as I’m writing this, big brother is trying to figure out what the heck is wrong with the darn thing.

After Spanish and work on the computer, I took a quick dip and then got changed to head on out to the city for some groceries. Added to that, our last gas bottle was set into use the other day, so we had to exchange the whole lot at the distribution center. Since in town they’re considerably cheaper than in the village we decided to connect the two chores.
Was pretty darn hot today, in town as much as at home, and the first thing I did after unloading (once at home) was head for the pool for another quick dip. Hah. That’s the definite plus of summer for me, I tell ya. The dips!

That over and done with, the doggies greeted and petted, I sat down for supper cousin Ed made, and started on the blog. Have been at it ever since. Poor me. I know, whiny. Hah. Gotta go. Already one in the morning over here. Darn it!

Let the writing commence. Yay!

Song of the day…I don’t know, actually. It’s been a while that I didn’t have a song haunting me. I think it has to do with starting the new book, because my head’s been busy with that. The difference between editing brain and writing brain, I’m thinking. Hah.

But anyway, let’s get this thing going. It’s about 45 minutes until midnight and I would like to get to bed in time.

There was of course the usual stuff, both yesterday and today, as in feeding the dogs and laundry. Very glamorous, I know. Hah. But that’s life, isn’t it, the basics is what gets us through the day…on the most part anyway. Hah.

Tenant, who went for an afternoon on the town with mom yesterday, was pretty darn exhausted today. Still, that didn’t stop her from wanting to bike the home trainer this morning, taking a dip in the pool, and heading down to the basin terrace where big brother and I were working on the computer as usual. She came down just in time too, for the experiment that I worked on today, involving salty oats that worked rather well in salty patties. Yum. Going in the recipe book. Yesterday was all about baked beets with rice.

First thing we had to do yesterday morning, was go to the vet for Nata’s test results. He’s suffering from the same problem as the last time, only a little less severe, thankfully. We’re going to continue with the dog food and the vet gave us some sachets that should strengthen his liver. Regretfully, Manni, the puppy, is still at the vet’s because the vet is still not sure as to what the problem is. He’s still losing a lot of snot, but luckily he’s not vomiting, or losing any other liquids. *phew*

Both yesterday and today we read through the query letter again…added to that we discovered a small problem with the synopsis. Apparently, my default was on the wrong letter type, and size, so the two pages we had so laboriously cut down to, turned out to be two and a half. Aaaargh. Spent about three hours cutting the synopsis down even more until we finally had two pages again. *sigh* It is easier to whack off an arm, than cut something like that to a smaller size. Seriously, I, well, we, shaved per word until it all fit.

As for today’s computer work…I got started on the new story. Yay! It’s going to be so weird, working this way. Seriously, I used to just let the characters take me where they wanted, but now I’m going to have to plan everything beforehand. It doesn’t help that so far there’s a plot with three subplots which I’m going to have to keep track of.

Both yesterday evening, and this one, involved watering the yard, of course, along with harvests (beets, zucchinis, cucumbers, white cabbage, tomatoes, broccoli) for both ourselves, as the dogs, naturally. Hot evenings, but after all the computer work, it sure was nicely cooling down by then.
Had a dip after both evenings, which got the grime of the day off.

Little brother passed his medical yesterday afternoon. He’s going to do his driver’s license soon, so that meant getting that test which is starting to get to be so very annoying.

Last night, this morning and this evening were spent working on the small trailer that we’ve been restoring for cousin Ed. We got all the new edges on, and yes, I did pictures, meaning that I’m going to have to do a picture update soon, I know.

Also did some on the interview, though not a lot. I really should get working on that. Tomorrow will have to do.

This evening I cut the dog food veggies while big brother finished up the last bits, and then we went up, with me helping a very tired tenant get ready for bed, while big brother tested the wiring of the wagon. Didn’t work, so he had to mess with it a lot. Stupid wiring. We might have to exchanged the whole lot, darn it. Then, since cousin Ed had to be elsewhere, big brother and I loaded the remainder of both car and wagon up for tomorrow’s market day.

Which brings us to now, and me writing the blog. I should have finished up half an hour ago, darn it.
