Song of the day: ......I actually have no idea which one to pick, because there have been way too many in my head these past couple of days. Annoying, that.
Yep, another couple of days past, and really, it goes ways too fast. We’re seriously in summer now. The temperatures are hitting the high nineties and at the moment it is just a tad above balmy. Wonderful. The sun has been shining brightly, the air is either extremely dry, or moist, with either of them pros and cons that have me fully enjoy this summer, if for no other reason than that it was high time. *sigh*
Big brother finished installing my new little Netbook, and I am, in fact, working on it right now. I’m starting to get used to it, but the small keys are still a bit of an issue. Not to mention that the screen is a 10.1” which is, like, tiny. Ah well, I’ll get used to it.
So lets do this in sequence, and start with yesterday morning, which started cloudy and yet sweltering. It was working the yard day that mostly involved trimming the tomatoes (removing disease) in the greenhouse and the yard. Seriously, I was sweating like a pig, but we got good progress there. Whatever looked bad got cut, and what still looked good we re-hung on the reed constructions. We lost a few to disease, but most of them are still growing. Yay.
While we were out there, we did some watering, of course, and harvesting, giving us a solid basket full of tomatoes, peppers and some onions. Yummy. We are going to need another canning session. Got three full baskets of tomatoes again.
In the afternoon we had to go to the garage again. The Opel, ya know, the flickering oil light and everything. *double sigh* We got there in time for our appointment, and while we waited for an hour, I managed to use the time properly and wrote two more pages for the book. It took my fingers about fifteen minutes to find the proper keys, but then the rattling sound was back, making big brother laugh. Yep, speed typing is essential when you’re doing a book. Hah.
Picked up the second hand pergola on the way back, and took some time loading it up. We don’t know where we’re going to put it yet (I’m thinking on the terrace under the new wall, btw) but it was just too good to pass up on.
Later in the evening I finished writing “V.L.” so yay. Sure, there will be a two to three month edit yet, but still, the story is done and though everything is likely to change during the remaining process, it is there for real. A very satisfying feeling, finishing a book. I kinda like it.
Was late getting to bed, but what the heck. Who needs sleep anyway? I’ve got better stuff to do…not really, but that’s what I keep telling myself. Hah. But anyway, I was understandably late this morning. Not that it mattered one way or other, but I hate oversleeping.
First thing we did after a dip in the pool, laundry, coffee and breakfast (in that order) was looking for new plinths in the storage up in the old horse paddock. We did find some, which should be good enough once they get sanded and polished. I love my new floor by the way. It’s gorgeous and is so wonderfully warm and smooth to walk on with bare feet.
Which reminds me, the foot is really PO-ing me. I can hardly stand on it at the moment, and all because I was stupid in using it to wedge the floor boards. *sigh* I can be soooo stupid sometimes. Grrr.
Afterwards we unloaded the car and cleaned it up for the sibs and mom, for tomorrow’s market session. Luckily, it didn’t take all that long, leaving us enough time to give the dogs a tick bath. Seriously, the pests were getting out of hand again, so we decided to fill the bathtub and dip the lot. Of course, Chaos disappeared without a trace before I could get him. Same goes for Sitabah, but since their ticks aren’t that bad, I decided not to bother tracking them down.
Afterwards we went down to the basin terrace. Tenant went along, and arrived (after a dip in the pool) after I finished making supper. Which was rather tasty. Fresh tomatoes, peppers and onions with cream and macaroni. Yummy. It fell on my empty stomach rather well, even though the foot thing is playing havoc on my stomach. Am nauseous way too often again. Better not start the vomiting again. I’m just getting my blood levels up after the last stint of I-can’t-hold-anything-down.
So, considering I finished V.L. we decided to, as an in-between project, need some distance before I get to editing the new book, do a new edit for Saving Nina. Update it a little, and apply the suggestions of my marvelous test readers to make it better. It’ll take a while, but it will be worth it. Besides, after all this time I’m kind of looking forward to reading it again.
After going through the prologue, we quit and got down into the basin. It still needed cleaning. Dani and I were down there (big brother and grandpa had to fix the solar panel battery storage) and stumbled upon seven frogs. We got them all, with loads of squealing (I dislike slimy and slippery animals) and laughing, and chasing after the quick little buggers. With the last one, Dani decided to toss the little feller, and ended up throwing it against the wall, rather than over it. Poor thing just bounced off and died. Which made Dani feel bad of course, and me tease her some saying stuff like: “You’re so mean. Seriously, if you wanted to kill it, then why not smash it with the shovel, why throw it against the wall. That’s really cruel.” Within no time (after burying the poor amphibian) we were both laughing again. Accidents do happen after all.
And thus we have, once again reached the end of the day…at least we did after harvesting another full basket of peppers, tomatoes, and zucchinis. If all goes well, tomorrow I’m going to have to boil pots for the next canning section. Should be doable, but if not…well, I guess I’ll have to see.
I’ve got a book to edit again, and am feeling the post-writing blues just around the corner, dammit.
Notice:
I can't predict when I have the time to post a new blog, but check occasionally. I'm going to try at least weekly.

Left my brain
Song of the day: “Unwritten” by Natasha Beddingfield. Love this song.
Well, I’m running way behind, partly due to the fact that I was writing. Yep. I’m in the end scene, and...IT...IS...ALMOST...DONE!!! Yay. Seriously. The book, is as good as done. I’ve got the escape rescue scene, I got the epilogue, now all I need is the in-between tying up loose ends scene. *sigh*
So, I didn’t make the ideal word count. In fact, I’ve already overshot by 3000 words, and still need to add a few, so I’m afraid I’m going to have to take out that scene that I mentioned. Darn it. If I don’t I’m going to have to cut sentences like nobodies business, during the edit, which I also hate. Grrr.
But anyway. I’ve got a new computer. Little brother’s computer gave the spirit, so we made a deal that I would get a Netbook with a long lasting battery (I’ve been putting a bit aside for it for almost a year now) and he would pay me 100 for my old one. So yeah, I got one...and relatively cheap too, since we didn’t buy the first one we came across, but shopped around. Ended up in Marbella where I got my hands on an ASUS, which is apparently the only one that can be set in English without an extra charge of 50 bucks. Yay.
So yeah, big brother has been busy installing programs I need. Along with my books, music and all that other useless crap I’ve got stored on there. *sigh* I hate getting used to a new computer, which is one of the reasons why I am still working on my old one right now. Seriously, is there anything more annoying than having to sort through twenty years of data, putting it where you need it and then hoping that you didn’t miss something that will now be lost forever. Aaaaargh.
It took me half a year to get used to this one, for crying out loud, and now I’ll have to start all over...not to mention with Window 7 rather than XP, darn it. I liked XP. Why did they have to go and change it anyway. Grrr.
It’s been a haranguing couple of day, mostly because we’ve been working on my floor...or more accurately putting it in. What with it being second hand, so to speak, it’s been a game of measuring, trying to fit, and then all over again until today, after two days of backbreaking sitting down/getting up, and again, and again, and again, it is finally in. Yay! Sure, the plinths need to go in yet, and the last one is still loose, but all in all the floor is looking splendid (yes, I have pictures and I will post them, don’t you worry none).
The dogs loved the past couple of days, mind you. Seriously, my dogs have lounged in and around my cabin constantly, barely looking up while I moved back and forth all day long. Heck, they didn’t even mind big brother’s dogs joining us. There were times when we were moving around, over, through and just on top of approximately twenty five dogs, which made it all the more exhausting.
A bad tidbit was that I did something incredibly stupid. We were putting in a particularly curvy board, and without thinking I tried to wedge it in place with my bare left foot. Yikes! Big mistake there. Seriously, I think I damaged the plantars growth in my foot, because I almost vomited right then and there. Have been nauseous ever since too, which only goes to show that I shouldn’t have left my brain on the night stand yesterday morning. Jeez. How stupid can you be using an already damaged foot, and slamming down on top of a growth. *sigh* Walking was no fun today, but what the heck, I persevered.
While yesterday’s back breaking session was topped by the trip to town (if you’ve been reading my blogs a lot you’ll know how much I like THAT) today’s came to an end with us in the yard harvesting a big load of tomatoes an peppers. I’m going to have to do another canning day, darn it. Seriously, we took up two and a half baskets today, and that’s from only two days for crying out loud.
We are going to have to take a full day for garden stuff tomorrow, along with a cleaning session in the basin, which we need to properly clean still before we can paint it. What with the weather channels predicting a slight increase in temperatures, that might turn out to be an interesting endeavor. Hah.
No matter, really. This year the weather has been wonderfully mild.
Tenant has been making herself incredibly useful. Not only has she been helping with the canning, she also assisted in waxing my floor. There were four more boards today this morning, and she sanded and then waxed them by herself, just so we could continue laying the floor...and I have to stop now. I’m seeing double and I could really use an early night today. Been getting way too little sleep again, barely making it to five hours for several days now, and it is starting to show in my endurance late at night. I’ve caught myself nodding off several times already.
Well, gotta go. I sure hope I will have something interesting to report the next time. Hah.

Much ado
Song of the day: “Rome wasn’t built in a day” by Morcheeba. A wonderfully easy song to sing, which I did plenty while tenant, Dani and I tackled the day’s canning of the tomatoes.
But that is for later, first we have to tackle yesterday don’t we? Well, first off, the car turned out NOT to be ready yesterday meaning that we didn’t have to go out...which reminds me of Sunday evening, which I have talked about yet. It was was after the blog after all.
So yeah, big brother an I were out to get a load of market donation items, and I was behind the wheel. We were going through a small domestic area when suddenly we suddenly saw something small and brown in the middle of the road. I only had time to swear once, and then we’d already gone over it. A small owl, there’s a lot of those in this area, and they have a tendency of sitting in the middle of the road. Darn it!
I was biting my lip, and big brother was looking back even as my foot went to the break. At the same time big brother said, “We hit it and it’s still alive and flopping on the road. Stop. Back up.” I did. “We’ll have to kill it, if it’s not dead yet,” he adds, and I shiver. Aaawwww. I hate it when that happens, but you can’t let a little creature like that suffer, and being hit by a Land Rover is not nothing.
Big brother reached the bird first, and I followed suit. The owl was sluggishly flipping over on the road and then stopped moving. Big brother jogged back to the car to get my vest so we could pick it up, and I touched it lightly to test if it was still alive. It was, and I did some more aaaawwwing while big brother carefully wrapped the bird into the fabric while he told me to get the car off the middle of the road...another car was waiting to pass.
In the car the bird started to move more, (I took a picture, but I don’t have the capacity to load it right now) and by the time we got to a quiet area away from the road, we got out of the car. It flitted in the air a little, still sluggish really, and then landed in the high dry grass. We didn’t really know what to do with it, so I suggested we pick it back up and take it home, or something, see if we could nurse it back to health, or something. I took it into my hands, and it just sat there, all quiet, unafraid, staring up at me with one big yellow eye, while the other was swollen shut. Then suddenly, it started crawling up my arm, my chin and then nose, slowly spreading its wings and then taking off with wobbly elegance.
It went well, even though it swayed in different directions before picking up speed and heading north, while we laughed in relief. It was a bit of freaky night too, since no more then five minutes later, still on the dirt road through the hills, a wild rabbit decided that it was smart to cross the road, calm as you please. Seriously, I almost went off the road right then and there trying to swerve with only steep rock wall on one side and steep incline on the other. *sigh* It was definitely careful-you-don’t-hit-wildlife-night, jeez! I was a nervous wreck by the end of the trip. Not to mention exhausted. Poor big brother, I fell asleep while he was driving us back.
But anyway, yesterday was a relatively quiet day. While big brother and grandpa were busy sawing my future floorboards, tenant (caregiver was at her other job again) and I spent most of the afternoon measuring, calculating and sorting through the finish floor boards, getting them ready for laying. I think she liked helping out, in particular since there is nothing wrong with her brain and she can do math better than me. Hah. But anyway, it was fun doing that with her, regardless that things went a little slower because of it. I consider it physical therapy, which is good for her. In particular since it makes her feel useful.
Writing went extremely well yesterday. Did a solid five pages, and am less than a hundred words from the wordcount limit. Aaaaah. Seriously, it’s going to be tough finishing the story, since I am in the middle of an escape scene. Luckily I have that option of taking out one scene, because with the way things are going at the moment I’m going to have to take that option just to be able to finish the story.
*sigh* I hate limits, but it has to be done.
On the high of an extremely good writing session, I finished the day working out in the car port. Pounded and kicked that bag, lifted weights, jumped about, pushed up, pulled up and all that stuff, leaving me properly exhausted by the end of the day when I fell in bed and passed out just the way I like it. Hah.
The thing that is driving me bonkers these past couple of weeks is the ticks. There are SOOOOO many of them at the moment that I get a little crazy whenever I’m trying to write. Seriously, one of the dogs walk past and I just have to check if the parasites are sucking them dry again. Jeez. No matter how often I take the loads of, the next time I look, just as many will be right there again.
Which brings us to today.
Overslept a little this morning, but then caught up by skipping the morning rituals and heading straight down for laundry, coffee and a dip...and not in that order. Hah. That’s when I got the call from the garage telling me that I could come pick up the Opel Astra. I didn’t think I was going to make it, since mom and little brother had to head out to visit friends a couple of hours later, but we decided to give it a shot anyway.
On our way out we came across a trailer with three cross-country motorcycles parked in front of our gate, but we didn’t have time to chat with the young man sitting in it, looking rather miserable. Instead we headed out and in the end managed to get to town and back in two hours, with the fixed (keeping my fingers crossed on that one) car.
The boy and the trailer were still there. He (red-headed late teen, I’m guessing) was lying between the motorcycles for some shade, so I decided to take pity on him and asked if everything was alright. Seriously, I have never in my life been the cause of this, but the poor kid couldn’t get a word out. I think I made him shy as heck (why, I don’t have a clue) because he just nodded, mumbling something unintelligible. Then when I asked if there was a problem, he mumbled something about back, tire and more that I couldn’t make out. “Got a flat tire?” I surmised, wondering if maybe I had guessed wrong about his language, but then at his nod, added, “Are you going cross country somewhere ‘round here?” which got me another mumble (and red cheeks) while he gestured a little wildly up the mountain and mumbled some more about father and new tire.
I decided to take pity on him and flashed him a smile before heading to the gate.
By then his dad (or at least I think he was his dad) returned in a black Toyota Rav4 and started talking with him. Since I was still there, and had to check the car before mom departed I exchanged a few words with the man, who asked if it would be okay to leave the bikes there while they went to town to get a new tire. I said sure, and then headed inside to change and get ready for today’s canning session.
Yes, there at last. For the next five hours tenant, Dani and I cooked pots, halved tomatoes, cut veggies (for lunch), sliced Gherkins for pickling and boiled the tomatoes before putting them in the newly cleaned pots. Twelve more canned tomato pots for winter, Yay!
Of course grandpa and big brother were the lucky ones, they got to mess around with power tools and sawed more of my new floorboards. *sigh* But anyways...lunch consisted of stir fry veggies with Asian noodles.
What remains now is starting to clear my room. I took the opportunity the other day to gather all the wandering books and shove them back on their shelfs. I put my piles of clean laundry in the closets and even took the opportunity to do some serious dusting, so, with a little luck, it won’t take ages getting most of the furniture out. Yay.
Oh right, the reason why I didn’t the do that yesterday is because it was so cloudy that for the longest time it seemed as if it was going to rain. A few drops fell, but that it. Gotta go.
