Song of the day: “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” by...Tight Fit. I know. I should go for the original version, but this is the one I know best, darn it.
Of course I have a slightly different version in my head, but what the hey.

What can I say, we were working in the yard (aka the jungle, duh) this morning and, boy, the vines have been rampant this past year...or better yet, this spring. Seriously, we worked for a steady hour, and got three, maybe four trees and bushes liberated from both the purple flower vine (I am still too lazy to look the species up) and the passion flower vine. It was a little daunting at times, I’ll admit, tangling with the thorny bougainvillea, yanking out strangling vines from the Oleander, but we persevered and found our way out of the jungle, once more.
Seriously, though, what were we thinking putting in so many vines?...oh wait, I remember now. It was near desert here way back when. Boy, did we take care of that particular problem. Hah. On the overall everything is looking pretty darn good. At least something (the wild) has been enjoying the wet, cloudy weather this past week or so. I swear if it weren’t for the sun breaking through every now and then in the late afternoons, I would have gone completely bonkers.
According to the weather channels, things aren’t going to get much better either. In fact, according to them we’re going to have a pretty cool may of low eighty temperatures.
Not to shabby, since that will definitely save water costs this summer, but I do have to admit that I am a complete whiner when it concerns crappy weather (in case you hadn’t noticed that bit after all my whining, hah) and have had it with winter. Grrr.
Okay, so last night I did make use of what is still pretty cool weather, and headed out into the carport for a good kick boxing exercise. I pounded and kicked the bag until I forgot all about the crappy-weather-blues and could properly pass out (way too late again) afterwards. *sigh* It was wonderful as usual, even though I don’t think I was as passionate at it as I usually am.
There was some cooking involved yesterday. The red cabbages are done, so we’re going to have to eat a lot of that in the near future (darn it, right?). It worked out rather well, I have to admit. Seriously, the way I prepared it the dish was almost as nice as red beets with melted cheese...okay, almost being the key word, because let’s face it, red beets with melted cheese are my absolute favorites. Hah. But it was good anyway, even though I had of course slept too little and was so friggin tired afterward that I just had to do a little nap, or else be not worth anything during computer work.
Nap was nice, in particular since we had an early day to town. First of all our new insurance papers arrived, which meant that we had to go there, pay for the year, and sign some papers. Before that we had to go to the bank to cancel our other car insurance, which is always a pain but worth the effort since we’re going to be saving twenty bucks a month with this new insurance. Yay.
There was of course a short foray into a supermarket, to get those few odds and ends that you need to get fresh every now and then, but then we could (much to my pleasure) head back home to get back to the normal routine.
Right now we’re on the terrace by the basin, and though there are some clouds, it is so wonderful that tenant even came down. So funny to see how the occasional escape dog will rush towards her for a friendly greeting before they admit to sneaking through the gate (when they know they’re not allowed in this section of the yard) and arrogantly trot back. I’ve got to say that it is charming to see how gentle they are with her (tenant, that is), in particular because I sometimes feared that they would just bowl over her. The don’t. Sure, sometimes thy will try to crawl in her lap, or eat her food, but other than that they appear to understand that she is not for roughhousing.
Starting a new writing project is coming closer every single day, and I do have to admit that my fingers are itching to dig in. I still haven’t decided on what I’m going to do, though. I know that I am aiming for romance (duh, I do always admit to being addicted to romance) but there are several options.
First there is Vintage Love, which definitely has its plus sides. The characters are already pretty solid in my head and the story, though suspense, is relatively simple.
Then there is Fairy Secretary, which should be downright hilarious to write...if less challenging.
Also the sci-fi I’m thinking about, which is the exact opposite, since it will be a total pain to get down, and maybe not even romance, come to think of it. Hmmm.
Lastly there is (well, not lastly since there are way, waaay more projects to finish, but what the hey) “Feet first”, which should be a fun romance to write since it is a sequel to “Accidentally In Love”. Seriously, it could be fun but...ah well, I guess I’m going to have to wait and see until I know what I want.
Yesterday afternoon (after that short nap and working on the computer) we headed down the yard to work on the preparations for the wall. There was more of the old wall to break down, some digging, and spraying clean the rocks that we took out. From the look of things there should be enough space to build the wall behind the stairs now, after which we can start on the new septic tank wall that will be right beside it. There will be lots of compost from this area that we’re going to be able to us in the yard, so grandpa and big brother made a portioned off section on the main path where we’re going to dump the stuff for later use. And man, that is some good shaite there (literally), teaming with rain worms and all sorts of other stuff that is way too alive for my jumpy nature. Hah.
Labhana has been particularly demanding these past few weeks. Either she is missing Mosha and Touri pretty badly, or she just figures that now they’re gone she can get a bit more attention on the overall. I gotta admit that Mosha was a demanding sweetie, who would nose in whenever one of the other dogs was trying to get some loving. *sigh* I do still miss her, though. In particular at night when I was so very used to her crawling on top of my chest, so she could snuggle her snout into my neck and get some quality time. Darn it. I gotta stop thinking about this.
Well, I’ve got more to today...most of it in the yard, which is like totally Yay! But before that, I want to do some more writing stuff. Gotta get this in-between-project done before the new project becomes too demanding and starts eating at my brain.
Gotta go.
Notice:
I can't predict when I have the time to post a new blog, but check occasionally. I'm going to try at least weekly.

Boring stuff.
Song of the day: “This is it” by Michael Jackson, preceded by “Living doll” by Cliff Richard. Weird combination again, huh.
Well, not much to write about again, considering the weather has been downright horrible. Seriously, I know I should be happy about this like big brother (the basin is steadily filling again after all) but I’m not. I’m friggin’ cold, and it feels like we’re back in winter. Just a couple of weeks ago I was pondering getting my summer clothes out of storage, and now I’m back to wearing layers for crying out loud. There’re clouds everywhere, there’s way too much moisture in the air and the temperatures are in the low seventies. Grrr.
There were two rock hauling trips since the last blog (yeah, I know. Exciting, right? Hah) getting them and loading them up, and then starting the day with hauling them down the mountain to the wall. Sometimes I wonder if we’ll ever have enough of them, but then I realize that it really doesn’t matter. It needs to be done anyway. So despite my knee (it is still effing around) I managed two or three wheelbarrows with rocks, after which I had to admit defeat and leave it to grandpa, big brother and Ox, who decided to join us for the day.
Regretfully my knee kept pounding most of the day afterwards, but who cares. I got to do them wheelbarrows after all. Hah.
Lots of earth turning going on still. This big patch in the lowest garden where we put in a long row
of pumpkins an melons. Also the patch that used to hold the potatoes got turned, holding many rows of melons now. Along with some rows of carrots seeds and a few more pumpkins. Let’s hope it all survives the freaky weather.
Where there’s freshly turned earth, seedlings and seeds, there are small reed fences to build. Inevitably dogs want to dash through the tender spots, so fences have got to be put up. It takes a while, but I kinda like the way it looks.
This fencing kind of stuff does insult the dogs, of course. In particular Knight II, Dax and Sitabah, who consider those fences a grave offense, the poor darlings. Really they were looking at me as if I was personally robbing them of their favorite spots. Time and again they would try to move in there, curl up on their flattened grass patches, barely missing the pumpkins and everything. Aargh!
Oh, oh, almost forgot, we had our first real tomatoes from the greenhouse yesterday, yay. They were awesome, especially together with some very young beets, also from the yard, which went well with lettuce and all that other stuff that make healthy sandwiches.
Computer wise there was of course work on the in-between-project, but also some work on the new one...or at least one of the new ones. *sigh* The latter has been fun, while the in-between-project is starting to lose its charm. Good thing we’re almost done.
Well that’s it. I’ve got screws and drills in my pocket and I know how to use them, so...I better go do that. Hah.

Happy B-day, middle Sis
Song of the day: “Staying alive” by the Beegees. Ah, the good old days, eh? Though, admittedly I have no idea what they were thinking with those tight, white pants back in those days. Hah.
What to write, what to write? On the overall it has been busy the past couple of days, but not so much with anything that is remotely interesting to talk about. We did see a snake the other day, so it really is starting to get essential that we burn an old tire in strategic spots throughout the yard. You see, apparently snakes don’t like the scent of burning tires at all, so for the past few years, whenever we notice snakes in the proximity, we burn a couple to chase them off.
Well, first of all, yesterday I had a job interview. Nothing fancy, just a few hours a week, but we’re going to have to wait and see how it goes. I can’t really say whether the interview went well, or not. It didn’t go bad, I know that much, but to say it went great, I don’t know either. All in all, the job won’t be bad, but I won’t be surprised if it turns out to be a negative.
Ah well...
Okay, other than that, middle sister has her birthday today. Yay. Twenty-seven years old, and going on thirty. Boy are we getting old here. Hah. Seriously, though. I still remember the baby girl she once was, and now I am eye to eye with a fully grown woman. *sigh* Time does pass way too fast.
I started out the morning making apple/pear pie, which turned out splendidly, thank you very much. Gawd, I stuffed myself.
Right. Gardening. There was more of that, of course. Transplanted fifteen more seedling icebergs into pots this very morning. There are a few more plants to put in, in the near future, but then, basically we’ll be done with the sowing and planting, leaving us with watering and weeding for the next few months.
Yesterday afternoon we took our this spring’s last potato harvest, which was plentiful, not to mention colorful. As a matter of fact, they’re a bright pink, which is...interesting to say the least. Now imagine them baked in their jackets with real butter and fresh green herbs. Delicious.
Yikes. I’ve got to stop talking about food. Seriously, my pie is coming back up.
Both yesterday and today the car had to be unloaded. Like this morning, we had a big batch of rocks to bring down to the wall for future masonry. They’re really good ones too, seeing as they have lots of straight edges, which sorta gets grandpa excited. He loves it when the rocks are straight like bricks. Me, on the other hand...I like the challenge of fitting all sorts of shapes together. Ah well, to each his own.
I really had to show Knight II who’s boss yesterday afternoon. For the sheer fun of it, he laid into Arthur, so I chased him up and made sure that he understood this was not acceptable. Of course he proceeded to ignore me the rest of the night, acting all out of sorts and refusing to run when we went out to get that batch of rocks. He’s still upset with me today (he really doesn’t like to be berated for being naughty) but is lying by my feet right now.
Dax’s ear is as good as healed (so’s Knight’s tail, btw) and like Sitabah he is following me everywhere. Tadaika appears to be getting used to me, thankfully. She is drawing gradually towards me and I am patiently trying to wait for her to come up with me (and my dogs) at night when I go to my cabin. She just might do it some day, in particular since she appears to enjoy playing with Sitabah, Dax and Knight II. A miracle that, considering she’s part pitbul and sometimes just a little to enthusiastic. Luckily the other three I mentioned, Knight especially, are more than her equal.
Huh. Okay. I’m done. Oh wow. I managed to keep the day’s blog to one page for a change. Gawd, I just might need to celebrate. Hah.

Backwards...
Song of the day: “Perfect 10” by the Beautiful South. Very funny, not to mention way too catchy.
I’ve got my usual issue again with trying to remember what I did for the past couple of days, sorry. Drawing a complete blank frustrates me to no end. It’s as if the moment I start thinking about what I should write down, my brain just refuses to dig into the databases, so to speak.
I could of course write my dream down, I had a rather splendid one after all, but I’m going to save it for another day when I remember even less of what happened in the days beforehand. Hah.
Well, let’s start on this morning and work our way back, maybe then I’ll get to remember everything.
Prior to starting on today’s blog, there was some satisfying concrete-block-hauling, where, between the four of us (Dani and grandpa helped big brother and me) we managed to haul down 20 blocks of 80 pounds a pop blocks that will soon be used for the new septic tank. Excellent way to get the muscles lubricated, if you ask me. Hah.
While I was helping tenant this morning, I made pumpkin soup for lunch. Worked well too, seeing as I just ate it. Gawd, seriously, it worked splendidly. I put lentils, leek, onion, broth, garlic and some mango juice in it. I need to write this one down. *sigh*
There was laundry of course, after waking up late this morning (slept through the alarm a couple of times) because I was also late getting to bed last night. Watched “John Rambo” which was hilariously gory. Seriously, I don’t get people’s problems with that type of movies. In particularly not since the message behind it is so very powerful. Ah well, better not start about that. I’d be at it for a page or two.
Preceding to the movie I had a wonderful kick-boxing session in the carport. Worked up a serious sweat, got my heartbeat up to 120 and felt wonderfully energized afterwards. I never would have thought that I would turn into a person who turns peppy after exercise, but the proof is there. Heck, I didn’t even have muscle aches this morning. Hah.
Had dinner of nuggets (doctor’s orders, remember? B12 shortage and all that. It’s gross, but what the heck) and fries, seeing as we’d had backed potatoes (with jackets) with a big salad for lunch. Not to mention grandpa’s wholewheat porridge, which still fills the gaps rather well. Added to that I also ate a couple of pears, so some snacky kind of food was basically just for filling.
Bad news is that the Mimosa tree we trimmed drastically recently, didn’t show any improvement, and even goes as far as dying right before our eyes. Such a pity. For a while we pondered putting a fine into it, but since that won’t change anything, and since we’d only have to kill the vine four years from now when the tree start rotting away, we’ve been discussing its replacement. We want something similar, something fast and something that is affordable. We’re going to have to pay a visit to a nursery to see what’s available.
Around eight in the afternoon we headed into the yard and spend several hours watering the veggies (with the basin, of course), building fences of reed to protect the new terraces and put in some seedling onions, along with two more rows of green beans and several melon plants.
The few dogs that are allowed to stay with us while we’re in the yard (they have learned not to barge through the plants) snoozed most of the afternoon away, as is their habit.
This was all after spending the majority of the afternoon on the greenhouse/basin terrace working on the in-between project. Still going steadily, and rapidly coming to the point where we’ll print it for a proof read. I kinda like it, even though it is ridiculously short. Hah.
In the mean time we also had lunch, which was what I mentioned two paragraphs higher.
The morning was spent work in the yard, of course. We took pumpkin and melon seedlings from the compost heap up at grandpas. They’d just come up, and that was just too good to pass up on. Now we have about ten more standing in the greenhouse, waiting to be put out in the wild. We potted them, and then took peppers and tomatoes down into the yard for planting. The peppers are looking well, but the tomatoes are not at all happy with the bad weather we’ve had.
The melons and pumpkins are slowly recovering though.
That outside foray was of course preceded by laundry, chores and the morning rituals.
See, I more or less managed to cover everything, even though it was once again extremely boring to read about, I’m sure. Can’t help that. It’s the days as they are.
Okay, dog update. There are lots of ticks again, which is frustrating beyond compare. It means that we’re going to have to do another dip in chemicals soon, because the friggin’ parasites don’t give a fig that they’re supposed to die from that crap. It’s like grandpa always says about grass and weeds. “Ticks (too) don’t bear a grudge. They’ll come back, and back, and back, and...” Aaaargh!
Of course except for Ayaana and Pim, who literally get attacked and almost sucked dry by the creatures, the dogs don’t mind at all, seeing as it earns them lots of attention. Whenever we pet them, we’ll be pulling ticks off. Grrr.
Well, that’s it for today. Not much more of interest to share, so I better get back to work.
