Just another day

Song of the day: “Come on” by Will Young. It’s been in my head sporadically, though, not at all consistently, which I thank the flu for. My brain is not at all up to its usual functions yet.

Have not been sleeping well due to a rather persistent cough. It makes me freak out by having me think that I’ve been suffering from it for weeks, while it has been only days in fact. Weird how that works.

Am starting the mornings walking the visiting dogs again, which is our special time together, really. They rut around, I gaze blankly at them while lounging against the mimosa tree. With this carpy weather of rain and wind it isn’t as much fun as it should be hah. Added to that, due to the flu I’m still waking rather late in the mornings, meaning that I have to rush through the morning rituals just to make it in time before the sibs’ dogs come out.

There’s been quite a bit of laundry, what with the persistent bad weather not a lot of it is drying, so that means a lot of measuring and shifting to get everything on the lines which are toiling under the weight.

Managed to do some for the job, putting together the “trap” door for the tankless waterheater’s cover. Right now the machine only has a narrow roof with supportive “walls” on either side. But since there is a problem with insects that want to nest in the nooks and cranny of the thing, we’re building an aluminum cover that partly consists of aluminum mosquito gauze. Got the main part done today, and it doesn’t look bad at all. If we do the rest like that (and we will) it’ll look good.
Took a couple of hours, but that’s okay, we took our time, and did a lot of sitting while we were at it.

Yesterday’s nap didn’t work at all, seeing as my ears kept popping quite annoyingly, but today it went rather well. Crawled under the blankets during the rainstorm and was out like a light for a full hour. Splendid, man, didn’t even cough or anything. Hah.

Went into the yard where we weeded through the broccoli field, and transplanted several into the upper field where several didn’t make it these past weeks. So many of our own seeds came up, that we literally have a field of broccoli plants. Hah. The ones we transplanted won’t all make it, of course, but even if only a handful do it’ll be nice. The other hundred or so went straight to yesterday’s dog food.

Added to that we harvested a massive load of broccoli. Seeing as we’ve been out of commission for a week now, the vegetable was sprouting all over the place. Gathered about four pounds of the stuff, which would make for at least two full meals. Yum.

Had a trip to town, returning some items to the hardware store, and then being back home in time to cook supper…which left us with enough to enjoy again today, with a big batch of broccoli through it.

At the moment big brother and I busy editing the new scene I added to V.L. last week. We have to check if it fits, if it doesn’t disrupt the flow of the rest of the story, and if it needs more for everything to work. Considering our brains are still somewhat mushy, it is not easy to check. Every other time I find my mind wandering, or my eyes drooping. Really annoying.

Did discover a nice little song (guess what’ll be in my head tomorrow, hah) by The Band Perry. “Better Dig Two”. Fun song. Keeps reminding me of “Young Guns” for some reason. Gawd, I do love some good Country every now and then.

Knight II is really bugging me at the moment. Stupid dog keeps digging at his paw, which persists to be a problem, and once again he has killed his cone collar. Seriously, that’s the fourth one. I had to tape it all up because the vet didn’t have any left of this size. I will find him eyeing me, and then as soon as I look away he’ll be working his way through the skin of his friggin’ paw, or some other spot he should not be bothering. The sneak.

As to tenant, still the same. We thought she had to go to hospital today to have her kidneys checked, but luckily it turned out that she has to go next week instead. Considering how tired she is constantly, I’m glad that it’s postponed another week. Maybe she’ll be a bit stronger by then.

Well, that’s about it. Time to call it a blog and maybe get some more work on the book done before I head to bed. Yay!

Slowly

Song of the day: “Explosions” by Ellie Goulding.

There really isn’t all that much to tell. Still sick, though not as bad as it used to be. Except for this persistently annoying cough that would keep me up during the night *sigh* I am slowly doing better.

Yesterday I managed to write a whole (yes, you read it right, one whole) page. Yay! Sorry for the sarcasm, folks, but this flu is really cutting into my schedule. Seriously, I sat at my computer for four hours and didn’t get more than one page on the proverbial paper in that time. Grrr.

To show my gradual improvement, I managed to walk the visiting dogs up and down the mountain, haulin’ my sick butt both up and down without dropping dead from sheer exhaustion, despite the fact that I felt that way. Hah.

This morning I managed a friggin’ big load of laundry, which was a pile that had been hanging there for the past three days or so, due to the rain that refused to abate and let the laundry dry until today. At least there’s space on the lines again.

Had to take Knight II to the vet, which I did. Had to wait for about half an hour and then walked him to the back where the vet gave him a shot. For the next twenty minutes or so we sat on the floor while she removed the stitches from his ear. He slept through the whole thing, hung limply in our arms (vet, assistant and me) as we carried him out to the car, just as grandpa arrived with some groceries. Now, if all goes well, I can take his cone off this time next week. Yay.

Had wanted to take a nap this afternoon, but we had to go to town to pick up some things and then straight on to the village so I could have my own stitches removed. Yep, originally my appointment was on Saturday, but seeing as I was basically passed out right then, it was just not doable. So yeah, I got there. Had to wait for about thirty minutes before I got to speak with the surgeon about the results from the analysis. Nothing with it. Cleared to go. Then I had to wait another thirty minutes at the infirmary to have my stitches removed by a nurse. He wasn’t all that adapt, and ended up plucking out a hair with every stitch. *sigh* But then I was done, and I could get the heck out of there, and finally cough up my lung the way I’d been wanting to do from the moment I sat down.

Tenant is still giving us fits with a refusal to drink proper, but at least she wanted a share of the mac&cheese big brother prepared for supper tonight. It did go down well, I admit, in particular since I didn’t much feel like cooking.

Well, that’s about it from over here. On the interesting news bits, we’re about 100 hits away from 10,000 on this blog, folks. That means that quite of few of you have been returning, eh. Cheers. Always a pleasure to realize that you have appreciative readers. Guess I’ll have to start thinking about doing something special for 10K hits. But what?
Give it some thought, why don’t you, and let me know.

The glorious flu

So… yeah, still pretty sick. Had a slightly better day yesterday. Actually managed to tag along with grandpa and play gofer at the very least. Good thing too, because big brother got hit by the same bug and is exactly one day behind me with his symptoms. Meaning, he was basically out of commission yesterday, like I was the day before that.

But I’m getting ahead of myself. Friday got skipped at the blog, so I better get you up to date.
First some good news. Tenant is home, and she is of course ecstatic being back with her doggies. Regretfully she’s giving us fits refusing to eat and drink proper. She tries, but then just…meh. It’s a struggle.

But okay, Friday. We went to the job, and I was feeling only slightly under the weather, which was okay, since we had hang the tankless water heater together. Worked just fine, I gofed, big brother did complicated stuff, and around two the first wave hit me. Wooh. Seriously. I had to sit down a moment. All of a sudden I was absolutely freezing. Big brother wasn’t affected so he told me to lie down before I passed out, which I did (the heater was hung after all)…lie down that is, for about thirty minutes, in the full sunshine, which did take care of the freezing feeling, for a bit. Did some more gofing, hauled supplies for big brother, started shivering again, helped drilling holes and measuring, got worse. Lied down again, pains starting all over, dozed a bit, only to have big brother wake me, telling me that the power went off about an hour earlier. Sweet mother of gawd! I have never been so happy in my life. I managed, to help load up our stuff, hauled my butt into the car, sent an SMS the boss lady (it’s not that she would have minded if we’d canceled due to my rapidly deteriorating health, I just hate doing that. The power was a good reason, since none of our machinery were of any use.) and conked out on the way home.
Once there, I just barely managed to drag my sick butt to my cabin, threw off my clothes, put on sweats and passed out for the next sixteen hours. Seriously, the flu has never hit me like that.
Spent the entire Saturday in bed too, after feeding the dogs, that is, only to have the fever break Sunday night, leaving me feeling markedly better. Changed my sheets (soaked everything during the night) washed my cups, hung a massive amount of laundry, and proceeded to help grandpa prepare for the predicted rain.
Packed up stuff by the igloo, finished laying the roof by the storage, put a cover on a leak of the old RVs roof.
Helped tenant (with a mouth cover, mind you. No way we’re risking her on this flu, only short amounts of time inside for me) and was more than ready to call it a day. Did watch the movie Salt, which I found a surprisingly nice movie. They don’t make them like that a lot anymore, but then Phillip Noyce is a terribly good director, and Jolie knows how to put a character down.
I liked that she managed to keep it gritty, and didn’t insist on staying “pretty” the way a lot of actresses do these days. When you play beat up in a movie, you’re supposed to look it, and she did that.
This director can totally make Saving Nina into a movie for me.
But anyway, I had a bit of a relapse today. Mostly because the night was pure horror. I kid you not. Torture can not be much worse than what went on during the night. I was cold in my bones. Yes. You read that right. Nothing feels quite as scary as feeling cold prix of ice in your bones, while back, legs and whatever kept aching and cramping. Finally gave up and asked grandpa to bring me a hot water bottle to warm me up, trying to do what two painkillers couldn’t. The heat helped a little, allowed me to drift off for an hour of two, then heat was gone and I had to start all over again, twice before the night was over.
Had to take several naps during the day, and the aches are still there, but…okay, I survived. Hah.
Today I didn’t do much of anything, except sleep, which felt healing, rather than passing out, and I had to take Knight to the vet to have his ear checked.
Afterward, despite the fact that I would much rather take a nap, I made supper, can’t be without proper supper after all, and then helped tenant to bed because caregiver had to take Sally to the hospital for her MRI.

Which sums up the past weekend. I, for one, would sell my soul to go to bed, so I better do that, eh? Hah.
