Untitled.

Song of the day: “Vision of you” by Belinda Carlisle. Gawd, that’s an oldie. I used to listen to it constantly in the early nineties, and it always reminds me of travelling across the Spanish countryside driving from one location to the next on our numerous travels. Those were the days! Seriously, there were times when the highway almost felt like home. Hah.

So, at the moment I’m sitting in the carport, tapping away at the keys while the rain is tapping on the roof. It is raining buckets, I tell ya. The water is streaming all over the place, and I decided to lock my dogs into my cabin rather than have them all wet to the bone. Poor darlings, they are balancing precariously between gratitude and total annoyance.

Well, let’s see what got done these past couple of days. There was gardening, of course…well, more like watering the plants just a bit, in anticipation of today’s downpour. Got to dress in layers again what with the temperatures rapidly dropping this past week or so.

The day before yesterday, several hours after my last blog, I was about to head down to the greenhouse to start putting in glass when I looked down at Knight II’s paw and noticed that there was a three inch gap of bleeding tissue on his right back paw. The eejit must have stepped into the glass at some point, so we dropped the evening’s plans and headed out to have him fixed at the vet’s.

First the vet gave him an intravenous shot of anaesthetic, which had him droop within ten minutes and then pass out. Turns out he is less heavy than I’d expected only 120 pounds, or so, which is almost lightweight for a Great Dane. He is not skinny, so it isn’t a problem really.

Anyway, we left him there and headed for town to get some supplies. Of course, by the time we were on the way back, the back tire of the Land Rover suddenly hissed and promptly deflated. We are really starting to get good at changing the tires (Gawd knows we’ve been getting lots of practise) ‘cause we did it under fifteen minutes and arrived at the vet’s only fifteen minutes late.

Knight II was already awake and waiting impatiently in the back room, literally looking a hole in the door until I arrived and the assistant let him out. Poor baby basically plastered himself to me as we paid (another friggin’ 120 bucks) talked about what to do next, and then headed out the door with Knight II rushing into the back of the car. It was as if his life depended on it, really. He spent the entire night lying on top of me. So much abandonment issues, the poor lug.

But anyway, Yesterday: besides the usual morning chores such as laundry, I went up to the bungalow to pick up tenant, so we could walk down to the greenhouse where big brother and I would work on putting in the first glass. Yay. She walked half the distance, proclaiming that she was a bit tired, so after walking halfway down, grandpa got her wheelchair and we drove her the rest of the way.
She thoroughly enjoyed the day in pleasant sunlight while I started putting in the glass panels.

It took me about one hour to put in one bay of glass panes. All but one were already cut, so while I was putting them up against the wooden structure, big brother went up to cut the last glass for the east side of the greenhouse. So strange to look at it now, even though only two walls are up, but where it was just bare bones first, there are the beginnings of an actual building. I know, I should be taking and posting pictures, but seeing as my phone overexposes everything, forces me to photoshop the lighting at the very least, preparing all those pictures actually takes more time than writing a couple of pages. *sigh*
I will, though.

When we worked our way through our supply of hardwood slats, we headed back upstairs, taking tenant along, and resumed sawing on the big sawing machine table. Got another twelve for the next round with putting in glass, and I am pretty excited about it, considering we’ll start with the roof.

Editing went rather well. Got another ten pages or so done…and I’ve gotta go now. Our friend Dani needs a pick up in the village due to the rain, so I better leave right now. Until Monday then…well, maybe. It will be a workday after all. Darn it!

Car stuff, again.

Song of the day: “Faraway voice” by Katie Melua. I’ve got her a lot, don’t I? Guess she’s got a voice that sticks in my head for some reason.

Okay, today’s hooray is for little sister, who is having her birthday. I asked her last night if she wanted me to make a cake, or if she rather have pastries. Considering she preferred the latter, we’re having pastries today. Hah.

Oh my Gawd. Twenty one years since that tiny little squirt came into the world. I remember the excitement when mom’s water broke, the hours and hours (I was ten years old and it seemed to last and eternity) that passed until the midwife came to assist with the birth.

Waiting and waiting, dozing a little in the living room but not wanting to go to bed due to the excitement. Stepdad walking around with little brother (three year old toddler) auntie talking in hushed tones, the dime lighting. And then, before I realized it, stepdad woke me and softly told me I had a little sister.
I didn’t know how I felt, but I think it was a mix of trepidation and excitement.

She was beautifully shaped, albeit a bit squashed and…well it seemed like she was greasy too, hah. And so tiny. It scared me a little to touch her, but she was a sweet baby for as far as my ten year old self was concerned.

Gawd, how fast the time goes. One day someone’s a tiny little baby and the next a young woman rearing to take on the world. Strange how that goes. And a difficult adjustment to make. I’ve always felt protective towards her, and I sometimes really have to restrain myself from not wanting to do it still. She’s an adult now, and there comes a time when one has to let go of that, I guess.

Well, enough maudlin, let’s get to the daily stuff and move on.

There was garden work, and it really settled me down after a hectic three days, seeing as we had to pick up our friend in Marbella yesterday. In fact we had to drive the distance twice, seeing she’d forgotten to go to her lawyer, and the bank. So the trip took about an hour longer than usual. *sigh*
We did take the chance to buy breakfast (French bread with cream cheese) and went to the hardware store to get pool paint for the basin. Expensive stuff that. Jeez.

But the gardening was nice. Got a good batch of new tomatoes, along with peppers, leek and of course zucchinis. We need to water a lot less, now that the weather is aiming towards winter. Even now the sky is overcast with clouds, rain heavy in the air, as the weather site predicted. I hope it holds long enough for me to finish the blog.

Oh, oh, got a good stack of glass again, meaning that we’re probably going to get quite a bit of the greenhouse covered sometime in the next two weeks. Which is a good thing since it is getting to be later and later. This really isn’t the time to dawdle if we want to do most of our veggies this winter.

Yesterday evening we spent a couple of hours working on the greenhouse, attaching hooks to the 4X4 beams that will soon support the glass all the way through. Though it was all already attacked we like to do a thing called overkill on the most part. Those metal hooks will help a lot, I’m thinking.

Tenant almost made a fist and is getting more mobile every day. Yay. What with her caregiver away to her other job so often, I am certainly seeing a lot of tenant, which allows me to keep better track of her progress. We considered the pastries today also part as a celebration for making a fist.

Mom is considering to take legal actions against the sewing machine company where she bought a new one just months ago. The stupid machine has been giving her nothing but trouble, and though I doubt it will do any good, she wants to try.

Got some good editing done these past two days. About twelve pages, I think. Even though we have been pretty distracted by Google Earth, since we’ve been trying to find a proper setting for the story. Like a town that fits the description I gave it, the types of people. So fascinating to just roam the earth like that, see on the screen what it would be like to actually be there. Hah.

Also managed to do a spot of writing. Albeit on paper, which doesn’t matter, considering that transferring it to the computer will be a matter of half an hour or something. Got started on the trauma scene. You know, the “thing” that bothers the male hero. His personal angst. Always nice to suck the drama, make it poignant and extremely intense.

This morning we spent hovering over and under the Land Rover. We found out that the garage put in the wrong oil, which is apparently not a good thing for this particular brand. Had to drain the engine and then put in 50 bucks worth of new oil. Was quite an experience, I’ll admit, and added to that we found out that the garage must have screwed with the cooling supply as well, seeing as it was almost completely empty and is still leaking. So not (ever) going to go back to those people. Let’s see if the new guy will be any good. Considering we need to take the Daewoo there on the eighteenth he will change a valve on the Land Rover as well, and maybe even check out the leak.

Yesterday afternoon we also fixed the back window of the car. Its fasteners were broken so we put in new clips. I wonder if there will be less noise inside now. We’ll see, big brother and grandpa a doing a test drive right now, so when they get back I’ll ask.

Sitabah (weimaraner) acted a little too rash again. She was limping and for a while I feared that she might have broken her back paw. But today the walking is going a lot better again, so that was a false alarm to say the least. Gawd, almost got a heart attack when I saw the big swelling on her paw. Now it is already lessening.

Well, I’ve got to go get a sarong for tenant. We’re sitting in the old horse paddock and the flies are driving her bonkers. I’ve got to figure out if I can make her some sort of tent so the flies can’t get to her. Hah.

Another one bites the dust.

Song of the day: “Mr Rock & Roll” by Amy MacDonald. Awesome song, so, Yay!

Okay, long couple of days, but I did get enough sleep, even though I forgot to take a painkiller last night. Sure, I didn’t sleep all that deep because of it, but the hours were enough at the very least.

So what’s been happening? Let me do a quick sum up because it is already four in the afternoon and I only just got home. Basically it feels I’ve been out a full 24 hours, even though, technically this is of course not the case. Instead there were eight hours in-between where I was home to pour some coffee down my throat, shower, hug the dogs, sleep and all those other necessities.

The paper route went fine. Big brother and I got to the city in time and we loaded up our load (actually came short this time, so we had to cheat a little, skimming some papers here and there off the bigger piles so we could make all the drops) before heading out. The shortage was, of course, due to the fact that we got the city with our steady route, meaning that we had to find some extra spots and basically cruise around a bit to earn the pay increase of ten bucks, hah.

The main dispatcher didn’t make a fuss about the increase, which was a relief. I always hear the most atrocious stories about money hassles. Phew. But anyway, the route went well, no big hiccups, except that while backing up out of our parking slot, some idiotic couple decided to pull up behind us. Nicked it with the corner of the Land Rover and after considerable debate, and while we were waiting for our insurance agent to pick up the phone, the couple huffed their annoyance and departed. Surprised me too, considering we had our papers out and everything. But then, considering they had come out of the blue and then started to throw up a fuss, I was kinda relieved.

After that things went off without a hitch (only took us fifteen minutes in total) and we did the route under seven hours. Considering we had the city with it, that wasn’t bad at all. My foot was a whiner again, by the way. Gawd, I should just beat the stupid thing for complaining so much. Hah.

But anyway, I was in bed ‘round two in the morning, and up again in time to head on out for the village part of the route. This took about an hour as well, and then it was back to the city to talk to our insurance agent, ‘cause apparently our paperwork was out of date. Grrr. Nothing the matter, everything else was in order, so we headed further into town to get the Daewoo from the garage. The guy gave us an estimate of what needs to be done. The entire thing will set us back about 200 and since we have to be there anyway on the eighteenth, he’ll replace a valve on the Land Rover as well.

Yep, a busy couple of days. Feels like a week has passed, and that without giving a feeling of having achieved anything. I’ve gotta admit that hauling rock, sand and whatnot up and down the mountain all day is less exhausting. I did get to see the inside of an expensive pawnshop this time, by the way. Jeez, the security in that place was heavy…and added to that the guy working there asked if I came from Vermont. Now, I didn’t know where he got that one from until I remembered that I was wearing my Vermont Baseball cap. Hah.
The waiter at the Punjabi Palace and I now appear to have a standing joke. He asks: “Do I get commission?” I answer: “’Fraid not. I’d just have to find a new spot.”
*snort*

Other than that there is little new to report. People are either nice or grumpy, and the funny part is, that sometimes when you see someone really grumpy, you can flash them a grin and before they realize it, they’ll smile back. Seriously. It cracks me up to see the flash of surprise in their faces when they realize what they did. But by then it will be too late. Hah.
Of course the only appears to work with older generations. For some reason folks in their twenties and thirties don’t respond in this way at all. They just keep looking grumpy.
I wonder why that is. I mean, seriously, is a smile really too big an effort? Apparently for some it is.

There was a quick trip to that pawnshop I mentioned, and a trip to the supermarket, since grandpa didn’t have time for it because he had to go to the dentist again. We were on our way home with both cars when we came across him underway to the city. Perched on his moped wearing a leather jacket and going top speed. Cracks me up every time.

Well, I’m out of stuff to write about, so I’m going to leave it at this, and see if maybe I can head into the yard for a bit. I could sure use some relaxation down there.

Three day stint...jeez, brain leakage again.

Song of the day: “Edelweis” from the Sound of Music, of course. I blame tenant, really, considering she loves listening, and humming along with the oldies whenever we need to walk somewhere. The Sound of Music is always a safe bet that way.

Yes, I forgot to write yesterday. That is the second time in one month, I think. I hate it when I forget stuff like that, in particular because it is supposed to be a perfectly ingrained habit, and I don’t like to slack that way. Ah well, I’m letting it go. Can’t change the past anyway.

So yeah, lots of stuff happened these past three days, and in all honesty I can hardly keep them all apart, so I’m just going to flap ‘m out at random and maybe add the day if I remember which one it was, okay?

First of all, yesterday morning was spent hauling mud and water out of the basin. What with the rain two weeks ago there were three wheelbarrows of mud and about 400 liters of sludge to level out. It didn’t go bad either. The day was gorgeous, and standing on the edge of the basin, lifting up buckets (with really smelly stuff, yuck) isn’t the worst way to start the day.

On the overall we’re still cutting glass. If all goes well, we should now have enough to put the roof on the greenhouse, so, yay. Lost several panes in the process, but the past year of gathering materials are definitely paying off. We should be able to start putting the glass in sometime this week.

While big brother was doing the majority of glass cutting, grandpa and I worked on the sawing machine, sawing the slats that will, in the near future, hold the glass in place. The hardwood has a rather particular smell, and considering that the saw makes its dust as small as sand, I was more than a little itchy by the end of the day.

Now I don’t know if I already wrote about it, but I finally got to shave Bommel. Poor feller was covered in permanent dirt, so it really was time for that. He went through the procedure just fine, and actually seemed to enjoy the washing he got afterwards. Used three helpings of shampoo, but finally he was spotless again.

Last night, after the sawing the wood, I played with Knight II for a bit. Seriously, the lug needed a bit of extra attention. He’s really a sissy, if I looked at him intently and growl deep in my throat he’ll lie down and roll on to his back in surrender. Then, of course, when I stop he’ll bounce right up and jump against me like the massive battering ram he is. Hah.

Thursday evening I changed the tire of the Land Rover, because it was flat (or on its way to it) and grandpa brought it to the village for fixing.

Friday was Grocery Shopping, of course. Jeez, I seriously dislike that day. But we managed it within five hours, which was rather splendid. At the same time we could pick up the Daewoo, which was fixed. Apparently, it had one loose fan belt and another one missing, so we were damn lucky that the engine wasn’t wrecked. I’ll have to bring it back on Monday so they can clean the engine and find out where the oil leak is. Big brother and I will drop it off before we start on our route.

Afterwards, while the younger sibs and I unloaded the Land Rover, big brother went to the village to pick up the fixed tire, and once I was done putting the groceries away, I headed on up so we could put the tire back on. Apparently, there was a nail in it. Hah.

While we were away a wasp stabbed tenant. For the past few days she’s had an upper lip that looks botoxed. Seriously, she reminded me a little of Brigitte Bardot, which, of course thrilled her. Hah.

This morning we went through the yard to harvest some veggies. It was wonderful to be in the yard again. The sun was out, but there were clouds as well. It really feels like autumn these days, and days are starting to feel chilly in the mornings and evening. While we were harvesting, going from bushes and jungle, we also checked the watering system. Three were clogged, but the rest was fine.

Thursday night and last night were spent kickboxing. Yay. Seriously, if you ever want to exercise and have fun at the same time, kickboxing is the way to go. I loved every single minute of the two sessions that surmounted to two hours in total. My aim has improved, so has my speed and strength.

Last night I also put in my second (2nd hand) rattan chair in sitting room and it looks so darn cute I just had to sit in it and stare at both for a bit. Since I was sitting anyway, we discussed the possibility of a glass extension to tenant’s bungalow, so she’ll be able to sit in the sunshine in the winter without being bothered by the wind. It shouldn’t be too difficult, what with the roof already being there, and since we only need to take out one wall, we could at about nine square feet to her kitchen. We’ll see how it goes.

Writing: I’m a bit blocked still as to what will happen next in the story, so for the past few days we’ve been editing instead. It’s going well too, seeing as the story is not at all complicated. Hah.

Well, time for me to have breakfast/lunch. I’m friggin starving.
