Song of the day: “Aint’ that a kick in the head” by Westlife, again. I’m having a lot of classics in my head these days.
Right, yeah. (Do not blank out again, Sam. I’m telling ya. Focus, darn it!) Yesterday…well, no workout then. We came home late the night before, and I didn’t get to bed until three in the morning. Consequently I couldn’t drag my butt from bed before nine in the morning, meaning that I had to forego the workout and skip immediately to the morning chores, such as (hold your breath, the suspense might just kill you) laundry, yes, the highlight of every persons day, and mine…*snort* Seriously, I like laundry, as you know so I was just messing with you. Hah.
Yesterday was a lot about busywork, really. Walking back and forth since we had to unload the car, sort through the whole mess and get it all down to the terrace for mom and the sibs to sort through again.
I fixed a nice wall lamp, which will be suited for mom’s room, providing quite a bit of light once I get around to hanging it. While I was working on it, mom joined me for a bit and we ended up talking about politics and such, which usually is the case. Hah.
Next I gathered foodstuffs for supper, asked if tenant needed anything else (she opted to stay up by her bungalow for a change) and then went down the mountain to work in the yard. That was nice. Sunshine and wind, and working in the dirt on bare feet (it’s an experiment to see if that works better for my friggin’ foot) the hours just flew by with me yanking weeds, watering fields and gathering veggies for supper.
I was downright sorry to see the day end after that. But supper had to be prepared and cleaning had to be done too, since we had been neglecting that for quite a bit. Hah. There is a lot of stuff that needs to be seen to, stuff we had to “let go” during the summer. Now that winter is approaching it is time to get stuff that can’t stay outside when the rainy season start.
But anyway, afterwards there was a nap for me, boy was I tired, and then there was reading of the review books, which is going well. This particular indie writer does have some interesting political views, which could make for some fascinating debates. Hah.
What followed were edits, and then around one in the morning it was finally time to go to bed. I was totally psyched for some peculiar reason.
Which brings us to today at last. Yes, there was time for a workout. Yay. Did a full hour and a half, punched, kicked and pounded that ball, stepped, jumped and slid, did push ups, pull ups and pumped iron, so I was nice warm and limber through the majority of the day.
First off we had to go to town to get some sewing supplies for mom, and then a few groceries to see us through the last of this month until Grocery Shopping Day is upon us once more. We got home after two, at which time I was more than happy to head down the yard and spend some time in the greenhouse.
Knight II was a little bonkers today, I don’t think he’s getting enough exercise because he’s got so much energy that sometimes I’m afraid that in his enthusiasm he’ll run right into me and break something. *sigh*
But anyway, after the dogs got over their usual enthusiasm, all quieted down again, and the groceries were put away. Once I was done in the greenhouse, once again there were leaf miners, and one of the tomato plants died because of it, it was time to start supper. Decided on pasta with veggies, by the way. Was nice.
That done, we had a little time left so some weeds got yanked in the onion paddies, which was wonderful. Bare feet again, on the warm moist soil, butt in the air and hair in my face. It got me laughing since my pants kept rolling down my hips. I really shouldn’t wear some of them without a belt. Hah.
Next we had to go to the village to pay an outstanding bill at the vet’s, and then headed to our pick up spot for rocks and letting Knight II out for a walk. Of course he’s incredibly lazy and after five minutes was traipsing around the car, practically begging to get in to relax and get his “dainty” paws off the dirt. Seriously, he’s such a city dog. If I head into the bushes, he looks around in search of a paved path for crying out loud.
Well anyway, I should get some more reading done, and edits, of course. I sure hope I’m going to get to bed in time tonight, because we just might have an extremely busy day tomorrow.
Notice:
I can't predict when I have the time to post a new blog, but check occasionally. I'm going to try at least weekly.

A rant...and a question
Song of the day: “Sunrise” by Nora Jones. I rediscovered it on Youtube the other day, and it’s been playing off and on in my head ever since.
Not much to tell about the past couple of days, other than that I worked on the closet for mom some more…finished it this morning, in fact. After workout and a shower (workout went well today, by the way. Am really getting a hang of a new kick) grandpa and I fixed the four big wheels under it, and together with big brother carried the mammoth piece of furniture down into the house.
Though there are some cosmetic errors in the thing it looks rather well down there, allowing for lots of storage of mom’s fabrics and god knows what else. Like explained earlier, a white carcass, with cobalt blue doors, trimmed with a reddish maple wood. Made the knobs and hinges silver, so on the overall…well, I like it. So does mom, so that’s all that really matters in that regard, eh?
It was quite a hassle getting down there, by the way. Turned out to be a bit heavier than expected what with all the MDF. In fact, we had to carry it with the three of us, until we got to the courtyard where the ground was level enough for us to use the wheels underneath.
Always a pleasure to discover that you guessed right about the size, by the way. It fit right in place. Hah.
Since we were there anyway, we also took a moment to crawl under the washing machine (meaning me, because my hands are smaller) to get the blasted thing stable again. It took scraped knuckles, a sprained index finger, but in the end it stopped wobbling again.
That done it was time to head on upstairs to see about tenant. Caregiver was off to her other job again, so we were on our own. Got her things together, picked out a new book because the one she’s been reading this past week was almost finished, and then walked down to basin terrace.
Spent some time going through the greenhouse, taking miners from the tomato leaves, checking the cabbage babies for caterpillars (the bugs are getting smaller every year. I swear these would fit on the tip of a clothespin just barely) and eggs, and then sorting through the ones that we’ll have to help get used to the wind.
That done, and with tenant’s help I made supper for the day, experimenting once again, of course. A veggie mix with patties on the side. No chickpeas of lentils today, but common flower with garden herbs and baked onions and garlic and Parmesan. It was yummy, I assure you.
And now I completely forgot about yesterday, blast it. Well, not much happening then either. We had pumpkin soup yesterday, and most of the day was spent working on that closet. I had hoped to finish it yesterday, of course, but didn’t manage it, much to my regret…well, not really regret, actually, my foot was friggin’ killing me last night, so I was rather happy to call it a day and settle down for the edit. Jeez, if I didn’t need that stupid thing, I’d chop it off for all the bother it’s giving me. Hah.
Seriously though, as of this morning I broke out my new shoes to see if perhaps the fact that the upper seams ripped are the reason the insoles don’t appear to be working any more. I mean, this spring wearing the insoles in my black boots worked like a charm. I do that, and I could walk without them for a week before my feet started feeling broken again. Now…well, it’s not helping. *sigh* If today was an indication, I removed my boots and hour ago without actually whimpering, I might be onto something. Hah.
Okay, I wanna do some edits tonight, and also some reading for the book I’m reviewing. It’s late already, and…well, I need to rant a little, sorry, it has to be done.
Has anyone noticed that in this day and age it is not “in” to emulate heroes anymore? I mean really, where are the heroes that were created to make kids strive to be better? Popeye, the Green Giant, Superman (I know, he’s still there, technically, but I think we can all agree that these days he’s more about PC than anything else) and all those others that pounded on the bad guys on a daily basis and which made kids wanna be just like them.
Sure you have the Marvel superhero movies strutting the streets like genuine prostitutes (sorry for the analogy, but it seemed to fit) showing their marvellous wares in all their glory. Yes, the special effects are grand, and yes, the special effects are grand, and also, the special effects are pretty darn grand (*snort*) but that’s about it, isn’t it. There are some good actors who manage to pull it off to come across as credible, but on the overall the plotlines leave me wanting for something that would make kids (heck, even adults for that matter) want to be good beyond being able to fly/strong/spidey/godly/psychic/mutanty or whatever the heck else is out there.
Sure, the super powers were part of it in the past, but there was also something about the heroes themselves that drew us, wasn’t there?
When was the last time that you genuinely liked a movie character, (as in, I wanna meet that person, talk with that person, heck, I wanna be that person!). Personally, it’s been about decade that I had that, but I’ll make the question easier. I won’t stick with superheroes, any character will do…and I don’t mean physically, mind you. I know all about the gorgeous babes and hunks out there, and I’m sure that plenty of you will want some one on one time with at least a handful of those, but that’s not the point. I want a character you can imagine spending twenty years with on a deserted island without another soul in sight, and…you can’t have sex with that person because neither of you have genitals or hormones. (I’m sorry for that image, but I have to be firm about this.) All you can do is talk with this person and get to know him/her. Which character do you think will still be interesting after a while?
I’m curious about your answers because I am starting to be one of those persons who is at the verge of thinking that “in the old days everything was better” and am most desperate by now. I wanna feel that emulation, again, darn it. I want to feel that “hunger” that makes you strive to do better, rather than the PC rule of “accept everyone the way they are”.
I don’t want to accept myself the way I am (I want change, I need change! If there is no change, life will stagnate, if you ask me…which you didn’t, but what the heck. Hah) let alone folks who beat up their kids and/or pets, lazy folks who want to sit on their thumbs and vegetate rather than achieve anything meaningful, and politicians (*snort*) and…well, the list goes on endlessly. I don’t want to accept that? The moment everyone just accepts without even a token resistance we might as well lay down and die. (Boy, can I be theatrical or what?)
But anyway, that is my thought on the matter. Really, I see the world at large and I wonder why they are impressing reality on kids. It’s not doing them any good, is it. Most kids know more about the “real world” than I do, and that is part of the problem.
The magic is gone and a superhero is that cool guy/gal who’s all buffed up and has superpowers. Let me just twitter my favorite superpower: “x-ray eyes!” I could so get laid if I had a bod like that!
*sigh*
It used to be more than that, really. Heck, even James Bond who boinked everything for Queen and country, had more depth back then…and I better quit now before this blog goes on ‘till infinity and beyond.
I’m outta here.

Back to carpentry
Song of the day: “Say say say” by Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney. After the last song of the day, I had to look it up, of course, and ended up with all sorts of McCartney stuff, including this one. So I’ve had this one in my head, along with McCartney’s “This one”. There are days when I wonder at how some stuff sticks in your head even after all these years.
And I’m drawing a blank…at this particular moment the days that past since my last blog didn’t exist and I floated in complete limbo. There is nothing. Not…oh wait, I do remember what I did today (it’s the pressure of remembering, is all. I really am not becoming senile…yet…I hope) and it was carpentry. Yes it was, thank you very much. Since mom is short on storage space in her working area I’ve decided to remodel an old closet and make it into a new one. It will be a foot an a half deep, five feet high and about six feet wide. The outside is white, and I intent to keep it that way, and the doors with be of a bright cobalt blue with mahogany colored strips of wood on them. Four doors, two straight up, two fold outs. Regretfully I didn’t manage to finish it today, but maybe, if there are no major disasters tomorrow, I’ll finish it then.
There was unloading of the car, since yesterday evening was another donation haul trip. Almost didn’t make it without falling asleep during the trip, but we made it save and sound in the end, which is all that matters in the end, of course. Basically the morning was spent lugging stuff to their respective storage spaces.
No workout this morning, seeing as we got home rather late, but yesterday we did…well I did, considering big brother fell asleep again and completely forgot the time. Ya snooze ya lose. I get a kick out of saying that, so let me just revel in that for a moment, okay? *sigh*
Gawd yes, gardening. I spent a large part of yesterday in the yard…or more accurately, the greenhouse. First off, there’s this persistent bug we’re battling (the red spider mite) along with a new one, the leaf miner (I already mentioned it once, I think) so that took up some of my time. Once I’d cleared most of the young tomato plants, grandpa had filled me up some big pots, in which I planted four tomato plants and three pepper plants. These will stay I the greenhouse and their pots permanently this winter. With a little luck we’ll have some fresh summer veggies that way.
That done, (big brother started on the lean-to again) I headed over to the elevated seedbed and sowed one row of green beans (just to see if that will work) and two patches of lettuce. Since there is new soil in there, I am most curious if the green beans will work. It would be bloody awesome if they did.
Cooked supper twice in the past two days. Strangely enough I was in the mood for rice, so yesterday we had fried rice (with coconut shavings and peanuts through curry spices) and chard on the side, and today with had what was left of the rice stir fried with veggies, and a satay sauce on the side. Was yummy, and tenant, whose idea it had been to go for the satay sauce, was more than happy.
But back to yesterday…we finished putting the construction of the second lean-to together, meaning that as soon as big brother finishes cutting glass we’re almost completely set for winter. Good thing too, seeing as the evenings and night are getting distinctly colder ‘bout now. I’m wearing sweaters and vests already.
A nap. How could I forget? I had a really good one last night. Yay! Was out like a light in ten seconds flat, so I needed it. Hah.
Edits are still going slow. I think it is a result of the flu. It shot our concentration, but we did manage to do several pages last night, so all is not lost. Hah. Even if it does feel that way at times.
Chaos the gorgeous is asking for attention at the moment. He’s standing beside me (me on a chair at the table, he on the porch with his head at the level of my head) oooohooooing pitifully for attention, and making me ambivalent about strangling or hugging him. Eejit! I bet he wants food or a petting, either can make him act this way. I better go see…
Well, it turned out to be a petting, he barged into the cabin afterwards, looking at me hopefully to let him up on the bed. He is sooooo lazy. Hah.
Well, I better get this wrapped up now. There are edits to do, discussions to be had and all that jazz before bedtime is here once more. I’m looking forward to it already.
