Song of the day: “Took a
pill in Ibiza” by Mike Posner. Still a cool song, despite it being
a friggin’ earworm from time to time.
Yeah, I know, time flies
and I can’t find any to write this blog steadily. I hope you’re
bearing with me on it, and just come by occasionally to see if I’ve
been a good girl and posted one or two. Not likely, of late, but I do
try.
I can hear you wondering,
waiting with bated breath what kind of exciting stuff has Sammie been
up to these past couple of weeks or so, but I’m telling ya, you can
just start breathing again and read on. Nothing extremely exciting, I
fear, just the usual chatter, work, some editing and...well, we’ll
get to all that in due time, I’m sure.
First of, work. It’s
been hectic, as usual, but not all that much fun for yours truly for
the past few weeks, I assure you. Some twelve days ago, or so, I
slipped (nothing too serious, I assure you, barely even noticed it
when it happened, washing windows) and afterward something was
completely out of whack in my hip, meaning I was worth carp for
several days, one of which was luckily my free day, so I didn’t
actually need to call in sick, but it was a close call for a while.
It was slabdab on the back of my hip, this pounding sensation
(imagine someone taking a hammer to the back of your hip, major fun)
that made things a mite interesting during cleanup. Luckily, during
the course of the days, I had several incidents where something
popped back into place in my spine, meaning that I’m almost back to
normal now. Yay!
Been out and about quite a
bit, lately. Not necessarily by choice at all times, but what the
hey, one does what one has to, right? There has been fun stuff too,
so it wasn’t all bad. Been visiting with friends whom we hadn’t
seen in at least four months. It had been a disaster getting our
schedules to match, but in the end we did manage a nice evening with
conversation, drink and pie, which I had prepped for and upcoming
birthday. Also visited with cousin Ed to bring her some furniture
from the charity shops and help her yank out a hideous carpet that
covered the perfectly beautiful parquet floor of her new place. This
was still during the days that my back was troubling me, so I wasn’t
entirely happy with the endeavor, but we managed at least. *sigh*
This weekend we visited
our father and stepmother for mother’s day down south. I had rushed
through work in the morning so we’d be on time, considering it is
an hour and forty five minute drive, but of course we got stuck in
traffic, because some idiots on vacation decided to have an accident
on the highway (no one got seriously hurt, thankfully) making us an
hour late. Grrr.
Had a visit or two with a
colleague, which was fun, too. Had some beer, talked the afternoon
away while sitting in the sunshine and all in all had a nice end of
the day before going back home.
Had a nice late lunch with
the folks, along with stepmom’s mother and sister. The first
remembered us from when we were wee ones, apparently, but even though
she looked familiar to me, I couldn’t really place in any memory
from when I was little. Nice old lady, though, with fun stories from
the past, including how her mom had been the proud grandmother of 52
(or so) grandchildren, while she had only one. Talk about difference.
Oh my. She seemed in good spirits about the whole thing, though, so
it wasn’t sad or anything. In fact, she was rather sweet in
whispering to me in the end that she did have, sort of, two more
grandkids now that she’d met us. Aaaaawwww.
Did I mention yet that I
have corresponded with littlest brother in the US? I can’t remember
if I did, or didn’t, but be that as it may, we did exchange a
couple of letters. Have been thinking about writing him another one,
but I’m balancing precariously on that should/shouldn’t I
precipice. Don’t want to make a nuisance, while wanting to build up
some rapport regardless. Hmmm. We’ll see how things work out, won’t
we.
No trip to the gym so far,
but since the few times that we tried we got there too late (our
membership is “entrance before 17:00”) we went into the woods the
other day and did some boot-camp training on a track, did stretches,
and ran bits and pieces for about an hour. Was a wonderful way to end
the evening for sure.
Cooking...well, in this
case I did more baking in ways of interesting topics. Had some
wonderful experiments with pies. Made another couple just this past
week, one for the high tea lunch on mother’s day, and another for a
colleague celebrating her birthday. Didn’t even matter in the end
that she didn’t like pie (didn’t know that one, because I had
wanted it to be a surprise and couldn’t ask, of course) because the
rest of the colleagues ended up enjoying it tremendously. It was
yummy. Standard apple pie with pecans, sesame seeds, raisins, ground
chili peppers, and most importantly tiny pieces of sweet potato.
Worked out splendidly. The taste was absolutely wonderful, even
though I missed the taste of cranberries, which I had used the last
time instead of raisins. Gave it more of a twang. Loved the dough,
though. Very nutty in taste, which is always awesome with apple pie.
What else...still eating
solid regular meals, although breakfast has been difficult lately
what with my painful hip. Pain, for some reason, messes with my
morning appetite, meaning that I did, of course, miss a few meals
again. Couldn’t be helped. I did my best and got through it. Now I
am working on managing a proper breakfast once more before leaving
for work in the morning.
Did plenty of hours of
work again these past few weeks. What with the colleague who quite
prematurely because she couldn’t stand having to wait for when her
contract ended, there has been a lot that needs doing and (sometimes
to my regret) this has ended up on my plate on various occasions.
Seriously, I don’t mind cleaning, but there are moments when enough
is just enough.
Thankfully there have also
been some instances that I could stay over to do some painting and
carpentry, which makes up for the tediousness of cleaning, thank you
very much.
There are, of course,
always the tedious things in live, like groceries, cleaning at home,
trying to catch up on sleep, which never seems to work out the way I
hope it will, but I won’t bother you with those.
Anything else to share?
I’m not sure, my brain doesn’t always work all that well, as you
very well know. Grrr. A pain in the behind, my brain, I assure you.
At some times it works way too well, keeping track of all sorts of
useless information, while at other moments it’ll be completely
oblivious. Luckily this is not so much a problem at work. If that
were the case I would be in a lot of trouble, now wouldn’t I?
Big brother has been just
as busy as me, mind you, and at the moment we are not seeing all that
much of each other. A few hours in the afternoon before bed time is
the most regular there, but during the day at work, we both do our
thing, and communications are sporadic at most. Added to that, we
both have different days off, meaning that four days a week our
schedules are completely out of whack. It makes planning anything fun
a tad annoying for sure. Can’t be helped however. Gotta make a
buck, don’t we? Hah.
There have been more
thoughts about the possibility of my own diner kind of thing, but
nothing concrete yet. I’ll keep you posted.
Editing: Yes, I’ve been
doing that off and on. Not as much as I would like, but I’m
steadily making progress through one of the urban fantasy romances
that I wrote several years ago. Still liking the characters, so
that’s good, and the story is developing without any major lapses
that could break up the reading pleasure, thankfully. You can never
be entirely sure until you’re doing the actual reading, so this is
a very good sign.
Writing: Not since the
last blog, I fear. Between my frequent horizontal sessions on the bed
and floor when my hip was giving me fits, work, daily chores and
being out and about, I haven’t been able the find the peace in my
head to get anything new on the pages of the banshee story...much to
my regret, considering that I’m mighty curious about how things are
going to develop between the two lead characters. They are definitely
going to fall for each other (it is a romance, after all) but the how
of it isn’t entirely there yet. There are too many ifs so far.
Well, that about sums it
up for now. Can’t think of anything else to write about anyway, so
this will just have to do.
Gotta go.
