Song of the day: “Rapper’s delight” by the Sugar Hill Gang. Such a funny song, and definitely not bad as an earworm with the variety in the lyrics.
We had a serious hail storm during the night, yesterday. By the time I got up during the chilling morning, there were hail pellets lying about everywhere. Strange. And later, once I went up to the old horse paddock, I looked at the mountains in the west and saw that they were covered in more snow than I’d ever before seen. It was beautiful. I almost decided to hop in the car and drive there. It’s been ages since I touched snow. *sigh*
Was a quiet day yesterday. Started with the usual chores such as laundry, walking the visiting dogs, and feeding the dogs. The latter was really enjoyed by the pack, since there were two large pots of venison stew that went through it. Boy did they eat fast.
Packed tenant up in her wheelchair and took her out for some fresh air. She has been hiding away in her room lately feeling miserable (and perhaps a little sorry for herself) so I thought I give her some change of scenery. For some reason she has convinced herself that she suffered a stroke or something, and has moments that she thinks she can’t walk anymore and just wants to lie in bed. Very strange.
Was up early this morning so caregiver and I could take tenant to the hospital. This is partly because it is a disaster to park at the hospital, so I dropped the two of them off and started looking for a parking place. Found one a mile down the road behind a golf course, and had to hike the whole way back. (am paying for that dealing. What is it with walking to and fro at the hospital that wrecks my foot so?) Regretfully, it was practically impossible to properly prep tenant for the x-rays, it took longer than it was supposed to (1 hour instead of a ½) so there was loads of waiting involved. Did meet this very nice little lady, who was so worried about the procedure (she was having the same as tenant) and feared that it would hurt, and she was so hungry because of the prepping, and she was there on her own because her husband had been unable to find a parking spot, and her daughter worked in Malaga as a lawyer, while her son worked in Marbella. So fascinating (despite her soft-spoken Spanish), all the stuff you learn about folks while waiting in the waiting room, eh? I had to agree with her that waiting rooms are horrid, though. You only see sick folks come by, which is depressing.
Afterward we went to Funny Beach to (show her around) treat her to a cup of coffee and some French fries. It was nice there. No wind, nice and sunny, and she even took a few steps on the beach before she remembered that she “can’t” walk, and demanded to be brought back to her chair. *sigh* Well, at least she took three steps in the sand, right?
Mom is still a little under the weather, but slowly improving. She even managed to go out today, which I would liked to have prevented, what with her condition, but what the hey. She’s an adult after all.
Writing wise, we’re still going steady. We might finish this weekend and send out the material on Monday, but we’ll have to see how that works out. Did some today as well. Not a lot, but some at least.
Knight II is officially without a cone now. So far he is leaving his poor ear alone, focusing primarily on his paw. I don't know why, but for some peculiar reason he is determined to gnaw it off, or something.
Made new potions. I was out of my last batch, which went wrong some, because they didn't work as well, and made the new ones in the early morning after picking the herbs from the yard. It should allow me to battle the after effects of this flu better.
As for this blog. 6 more viewers and we’ve hit 10K people. Who would have thought four years ago that I’d ever get ten thousand hits on this blog, but there you have it. 10,000 visits. Let me just say thank you for checking it out…and especially for coming back. Hah.
Did some more masonry on the kitchen, yay. Still not done, but once again a little closer to completion. If weather permits I think I’m going to work on the window frames tomorrow. It shouldn’t be to hard, but then, you never should get cocky. As for the walls, they’re looking good.
For supper we made bread pizza’s, which went down extremely well. Same goes for today’s cauliflower soup. Don’t you just love the thick soups? I do. They warm you up inside.
Went out for a donation, both yesterday and today, but they were minor, all things considered. Good still, in particular the foodstuff which make up for the diversity in the dog food. Well, I’m starting to draw a blank as to what else has been going on lately. Like I said, it’s been nicely quiet, in particular since we’ve still been recuperating from that nasty flu last week. *sigh*
That’s for today, I suppose. I would like to get to bed in time tonight, so I’m calling it a night. Better hope I have something grand in mind for Monday when we’ll be sure to have past the 10K mark. Yay!
Notice:
I can't predict when I have the time to post a new blog, but check occasionally. I'm going to try at least weekly.

Under the weather
Song of the day: “Just give me a reason” by Pink and Nate Ruess from Fun. Good song. Only the beginning reminds me of Carly Simon’s “You’re so vain”. I like the piece sung by Ruess, though.
First of all, mom is still feeling under the weather, and has spent the majority of the past few days sleeping the hours away. Best thing for her regardless, so let’s see it as a good thing. Same goes for tenant, for that matter. She’s constantly complaining of being so tired, and wanting to see the doctor, so we had the man come over yesterday, and he spent some time with her trying to figure out what was wrong. Turns out he couldn’t find anything amiss. He doesn’t even think she’s really depressed, just a tad down, which is something anyone can suffer from. Personally I was relieved to see her flirt a little with the man, and put on a somewhat stronger front for his benefit. Tells me that she’s just a little fed up at the moment.
Let’s just hope that her daughter coming to visit in April, will improve her mood a little.
Sally wasn’t feeling too grand either. I fear that the flu bug is raging rampant through the whole place, darn it. And we worked so hard to sequester ourselves off, and wear mouth caps. *sigh*
Fun bit is that when I had to drive to the local gas station to meet with tenant’s doctor (we’re hard to find so I had to lead the way) I was pulled over at the big roundabout. It is a popular spot for the Guardia Civil, and this time I was the unlucky one…not that it was bad, or anything. He was actually a nice boy (kinda cute, even) and actually managed to speak a word or two of English. Hah. There was the whole drivers license, NIE and car paper showing bit, but as soon as he saw where I lived (a few miles up the mountain) he started looking out for a new victim. I did ask him why they so often stake out that particular roundabout and he explained that it was because it’s a crossing of four roads of four big towns. Apparently it’s a good spot to catch nefarious ongoings. Hah.
Laughed about it with the doc, who saw the whole thing, and started explaining how he hadn’t been wearing his seatbelt until the last possible moment, and was happy that they’d let him through. I think we wrecked his night out, because he looked all spiffy in leather boots, white pants and leather jacket with scarf.
Sleeping has been a tad uncomfortable, lately. Due to the cold the dogs are really moving in close, which is on the one hand wonderful, and downright painful on the other. Seriously, when I wake up in the morning I feel racked.
Knight II went to the vet for his checkup and he was given the all clear for his ear. He still won’t leave his foot alone. Seriously, the moment the sock goes off, he’s licking it, and licking it, and licking it some more, until it bleeds, the idiot. I should hogtie him, darn it.
Still working on V.L., and fitting in that new scene. We’re getting there, slowly checking all the references to the scene later in the book, and making sure that we didn’t miss something essential. Of course you can never be truly sure of that, but you gotta try, right?
If all goes as planned we’ll be able to send it out by the end of the week, or after the weekend. That would be good, considering I would like to continue with “Trust Me Said the Spy”. It’s going to be tricky trying to finish it before the end of spring.
Yesterday morning was spent setting up a tent, to see if all the parts were there, and they were. It was just like the good old days when we’d be traveling through Europe, and every day we’d stop at some camping ground where we’d have to set u tents and prepare for the night. The smells, the sounds, seriously, nothing is quite the same as camping, is it. Such a pity that it is so out of fashion to rough it a little. I remember tiny tents, hard mattresses, warm sleeping bags and no luxuries. These days tents are almost castles, for crying out loud.
Still coughing a lot but it is slowly, oh so slowly, getting less bad, at least.
There were dog feeding sessions, of course. Visiting dogs to walk. Harvests to gather in the yard. And laundry to do. On the most part the past two days were spent moving from one sick person to the next, and writing. The latter a good, thing, the first just time consuming. Seriously, I can hardly wait getting to work on something physical one of these days.
Might have another job some day soon. Building a shed, probably, we’ll see. It’ll be about a week’s work, so that’s not bad for the finances. What with all the vet bills, the hospital visits and of course the monthly expenses, savings are horribly depleted.
Well, that’s about all she wrote on my part. It’s past midnight again, and I for one, am running on fumes…had to go out for two small donations, two days in a row, so…I’ve had it for now. Time for bed.

Another weekend gone
Song of the day: “Gold Forever” by the Wanted. A bit of a whiny song, and typical earworm material if you ask me. It was there, so, yeah…whatever.
Okay, the weekend. Saturday was really rather uneventful, due to the fact that I am coughing way too much yet to go to market, and because Cousin Ed can hardly be expected to go on her own. So, again no market this Sunday, meaning that we didn’t need to load up the Land Rover.
Started reading “Game of Thrones”, and I though I don’t dislike it, I do have to say that I am a little surprised by the sexual tones in the story. I’ve read my fair share of high fantasy, and I can assure you that those didn’t mention the amount of details when referring to sex. In fact, some of the stuff I’m reading here rivals the more moderate romance novels I’ve read over the years. Very strange.
Big brother and I spent some time using the jackhammer on the concrete mixer. Grandpa has a tendency to not clean it properly, meaning that we lot about half the size of the drum to dried concrete. It took some hammering to clear that out, I assure you. Considering that there was a freezing northern wind, we were mighty uncomfortable up there in the full blast of it.
Managed to choke down some meat again, yay (Good Sammie) once I smothered it in Satay, and of course baked it to a friggin’ crisp. Don’t laugh, darn it. Eating meat is pretty darn hard work, you know.
There were of course three dog feeding sessions, and a trip to the city to pick up the food donation for the dogs from the drug rehab center. The usual stuff like laundry got done, too, of course, and cooking…with today pies for Sally’s birthday. She asked for lemon pie, so we had lemon pie. Boy did that work out well, already had a piece and a half. Those “sweet” lemons from the yard are really good for this sort of thing. You have the tang, yet not the nose-wrinkling sourness Lemons are known for.
But anyway, since we weren’t going to the market, big brother and I opted to head out for the tankless water heater job instead. Left bright and early (after feeding the dogs, of course, and after Chaos stole our lunch, which grandpa had left on the table. Had to take the makings of mac&cheese instead) and arrived on site with a nice bit of sunshine and hardly any wind. Bliss, I tell ya. The first cover that we’d worked on at home already went on without a hitch, but the second one, the one that we couldn’t pre-make because there was a logistics problem, took some figuring out. Did finally figure it out. A stab in, closing mechanism at the top trap door thing. It would work. Had the darn thing almost completely done when suddenly my drill broke, and I scraped it right through the netting, creating a three inch hole…so we had to start over. Big brother didn’t even swear, which I find admirable. Hah.
Fixed my error with new netting, and then left big brother to finish up while I headed out into the yard for some trimming. Managed only some cosmetics on about thirty trees, I guess, and by then the sun was going down, meaning there was no time to clean up the branches. Still had to load everything back up, clean up the mess we’d made during construction, and checking if we turned everything off that had to be turned off.
It was already dark by the time we headed home…not to mention bitterly cold. Brrr.
Here's the cover by the way:
Writing wise it’s been slow but steady this weekend and today. We’re still checking the new scene in context, meaning we have to check everything, make references, check, and cross check until we’re sure that it truly fits. Considering that such things take time, we’re taking it.
Which brings us to today. The usual chores and such preceded a nice quiet reading session of “the scene”. Followed by making two pies (one lemon, one kiwi…had a big batch of those, so they had to be put to use) and then hauling rocks down to the outside kitchen. Added a few more layers on the edges, yay. Soon we’ll be able to start putting in the high windows at least. Did some fancy masonry with some oddly shaped rocks to boot, which was fun…right before we headed into town to pick up some butter and a small donation.
Tenant is still the same. Difficulty drinking, a bit of a cough, a tad depressed…understandable of course. Hope that all this bad luck lately will pass soon.
Mom, on the other hand, isn’t feeling well at all. I’m afraid she might have caught the flu, or otherwise she’s overworked, which wouldn’t be surprising. The past few weeks have been pretty hectic. Have put her to bed with a hot water bottle, and the younger sibs are keeping an eye on her. Hope she feels better in the morning.
As for me. It’s incredibly late so I better start get ready for bed. Tomorrow’s gonna be here soon enough.
