Song of the day: “Beneath Your Beautiful” by Labrinth featuring Emeli Sandé. Only discovered yesterday, but I love it, and it’s been in my head every since I downloaded it. Gorgeous.
Yeah, well, I won’t have to tell you that I did some editing. Well, quite a bit, actually. Managed a total of 20 pages these past couple of days, despite the multiple hiccups during the two days before that. Yep, there were some serious “discussions” again. Some of ‘m got pretty fierce, with me walking out before I did something I might regret. Seriously, I get riled when big brother asks me why I wrote something down in some particular way, while he was right there, writing along during the past nine edits. Not a single sentence in this book is exactly like it used to be when I wrote it, darn it. Ah well…all part of the glamorous life of an artist: Everyone’s a critic.
So okay, there was the garden work yesterday. Watering the plants in bright sunlight is one of the more pleasant ways to get through the afternoon. Cabbage types are growing well in some areas, not so well in others, rather strange, if you ask me. But no matter, there’s time, there’s water, and there’s the wonderful calm that comes over me while checking the little seedlings for caterpillars.
Since we were down there anyway, big brother split some logs (about one yard long) which we hauled up to the wood storage. Afterward we managed about half an hour on my kitchen, putting one row of large bricks up for the side wall. Then of course we ran out of time because we had to go pick up a donation in town, which took a couple of hours. Once we were done, we barely had enough time to eat and edit before the day was through.
I could of course tout about feeding the dogs, doing the laundry, and all that fun stuff, but I’ll save you the ordeal and skip to today where we did some more masonry. Yep. Another layer to the wall, along with pouring concrete to the inner side where the kitchen attaches to the carport. Took about six wheelbarrows to get it done, but that’s okay. Today there was nothing to pick up, except go to the vet to order a flea collar for little Panni, and afterward a run, which went rather well, I have to say. Decided to skip the jog pace and go for a run pace instead, which I like a lot better. I’ve a need for speed. Hah.
Managed top choke down some more beef today, which helped with the running, I’m thinking. I sometimes wonder if the fact that I never ate meat during the first thirty two years of my life, has something to do with me really noticing a difference when I do eat it. My limbs are less tired after a run, and I don’t have droopy eyes at the end of the day.
Now, I hear you thinking, if the effects are that splendid, why the heck does she not eat meat every day? Well, have you any idea how much effort it is to pass on a nice apple pancake, or baked potatoes, or mac&cheese, for something as gross as meat? *sigh* I know. I really need to change my attitude toward meat, but there you have it. Like today big brother baked some wild boar (he wanted to try it once) and I literally had to force myself to choke that down with the risk of hurling up the beef I ate before it. Not that it tasted bad, it just smelled awful, and it was way, waaaay too juicy. Friggin’ stuff tasted like Wheat gluten for crying out loud. That always was gross. too. *double sigh*
Good news is that Sunday we’ll be at the market with the Land Rover, which will be so much easier. The Coin market is not going to happen due to Three Kings, so, Yay! Loading and unloading will be a piece of cake.
Well, what else. So okay, Sally is doing okay at the moment. She really likes that the Chemo was light the last time, because it improves her mood vastly.
Tenant appears to be a tad distant at the moment, which I find peculiar, but is her choice, of course. A pity, though. There used to a be a time when she would just join us wherever we were busy, but now she mostly prefers her room.
Big brother made himself an appointment at the dentist the next week. He’s got this swelling beside his tooth, so let’s hope it’s just an infection, or something, rather than something serious.
Good news is that we have a new job coming up the coming week. Our vet’s assistant, who moved with her family to Madrid kept our number in case they needed anything done on the house they are going to rent out…which is now. Turns out we have to remove a large wall closet, scrape the wall, apply a rubber layer and repaint it all so they can rent it out. A job’s a job, to my way of thinking, and since we have a sh**load of dog bills to pay, I ain’t going to say no to the opportunity. *snort*
That about sums it up for now, doesn’t it? The weekend is going to be a busy one, so I, for one, am more than a little happy that I won’t need to write this thing during that time. Hah.
Oh my, five days 'till my birthday. 34. Who'd have thunk I'd make it that far. *chortle*
Notice:
I can't predict when I have the time to post a new blog, but check occasionally. I'm going to try at least weekly.

Something different
Song of the day: “Dream a little dream” by the Beautiful South. Again. I do love it, so it’s not a bad thing.
Well…been back from the Wednesday market for a few hours. I didn’t much like it…it’ll probably become less bad once I get used to it, but let’s be honest, despite the lack of traffic at Funny Beach, I prefer the place to this one.
So let me paint a picture of the Benalmadena market for you. It is basically in the middle of the town, a big park with bare trees (darn winter) and concrete paths along which the vendors have their booths.
Seeing as the stand we had today is officially of an acquaintance we were in a nice spot. Very central on the main crossing of the park’s paths. A plus is we can park right there, so there’s no hauling over big distances. Setting up went relatively fast because of that.
As for visitors…apparently for this market it was a quiet day, while for us it seemed to incredibly busy. More than enough people walking around, lots of “oh how pretty” and “how much is this one” but about the same amount of sales as usual. How’s that for weird, eh? Hundreds of people instead of dozens, and still no more sales.
Did have lots of nice chats. I spoke with another vendor, a nice Irish fella, for quite some time. He told how he’d been here in Spain for years, and how if he ever had to go back home he’d be screwed, because he and his wife would get no help whatsoever. While if he’d be from some third world country, the government would throw money at him. I also asked him why he left Ireland, and he said that it was because people were killing each other over there. He was from the North, near Dublin.
The prettiest description he gave me of his country was that when he still lived there and worked the land, it was so quiet. There would be days when only a single car would come by, which almost makes my mouth water. Hah.
Next he took to telling me about his sons, one of which who’d met a nice girl in the county Cork and would probably end up marrying her, while the other had come to vacation here in Spain and met this wonderful Irish lass he was getting serious about, and had gotten a job round these parts to boot. That sure pleased the old man.
But it was a nice talk, which lasted up to half an hour.
Also talked with two English book ladies of whom I bought six books (there goes my resolution not to waste money on books…but I consider them research, darn it) and chatted some about our favorite authors. Ended up with a couple of Tess Gerritsen, one Amanda Quick, a Val McDermitt and two Nora Roberts. That ought to tide me over for a week or two. Hah.
Talked with a very nice Spanish fella too, who belonged to a band, and who (for some peculiar reason) couldn't stop talking about his trip to Rotterdam many years ago. He kept coming back to how he'd traveled along on a bike and that the girls there were all blonde. He was friendly, though, patient with my bad Spanish, and determined to go through the whole introduction thing. Wonder if he'll be back. He did claim having four Yorkies, and he loved the beds and quilts.
Petted doggies, waved at kiddies, oohed and aahed over babies and on the overall chatted my butt off with customers and vendors alike.
Wandered the entire lot in search of a chainsaw and maybe some kitchen ware, but ended up with just those books. *sigh*
Sold a dog bed to a nice couple who really loved it all, and a purse to a vet from Jaen. Also sold some small things, like a stuffed animal, decorative vines, but that barely made a dent in the expenses so, who cares. It was something different, and that's never bad.
Unlike Funny Beach, we had to be on site at seven, meaning I had to get up at five thirty, and this one finished at 2, meaning we were packed and on our way home after 3.
Though big brother and I had to go out afterward to get a load of wood, and have big brother make an appointment for himself at the dentist, my too-short night caught up with me. Yep, for some reason I didn’t sleep well during the night, meaning I only got about five hours of shuteye. That is not beneficial to a good day. Hah.
Crashed a little after big brother and I got home, so while big brother took care of cooking, I fell face-down on bed and passed out for about an hour. Nice. I could have strangled big brother when he woke me up on the agreed time, hah, but I restrained myself. Dogs loved the nap too, they were literally squashed against me through that hour. Chaos appears to be feeling a little better at least.
Ate supper and then got to the edit for a couple of hours before it was time to get working on this blog…and now yesterday, I almost forgot in my eagerness to call it a day. *sigh*
Wish I could say we managed to work on the kitchen, but we didn’t. There was a threat of rain so we spent most of the day running about covering stuff up, seeing to it that every hatch was shut tight, and of course doing the normal chores.
Did manage to spent an hour or two in the yard, and while big brother watered most of the seedlings, I went past the fruit trees or a trimming. The mandarin did really well this year after I trimmed it last winter, so we figured we better do it again this year. Managed most of them, and had to take off the main stem of one of the apple trees because a big bug had dug its way into it and had eaten away most of the stem, darn it.
For supper (yesterday) I made ratatouille on macaroni, which also served as today’s lunch since I didn’t much feel like making anything else for today.
Well, that’s it. No more…at least nothing remotely interesting I can think of, so I’m going to call it a day. Hah!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Song of the day: “Small bump” by Ed Sheeran. I’ve been having him in my head a lot lately. Not that it was a bad song, or anything. I actually like it a lot. A lot of them, in fact. Ah well, can’t tell the brain to do much of anything when it’s made up its mind. Hah.
Well, I’m totally not in the mood to write today’s blog, but what the heck, a deal’s a deal, Monday blogging it is.
First off is that Leba, one of mom’s Cocker Spaniels died unexpectedly today. It was all very strange, really. Mom had just returned from the vet, where she’d heard the poor darling had a faulty heart valve, but that she could go back home. Then, within several hours she was dead. Just like that. For Leba, it wasn’t the worst thing to happen. Though she was only six, she’d been blind for the past two years at least, and her health was iffy at best. It’s us humans that have some issues with it. *sigh* Never a good day when we lose one of the pack.
Well…Sunday’s market (yesterday). It started off with a flat tire halfway to Marbella, and when we took the spare from the boot (had to unload most of the car’s contents) we discovered that that one was soft too. Hah. Had to phone mom at the other market so she could come with the small pump that we have in the Land Rover so we could pump it up.
Since we were halfway there anyway, and since loading stuff back into the Opel would take more than half an hour, we tossed all the unloaded stuff in the back of the Land Rover and drove to the market with both cars.
A slow, Slow, SLOW day. Hah. I think we sold for the whopping total of 7.50. Yep. We can retire and live a life of luxury now. *sigh* Not a bad day, though. The atmosphere, though quiet, was pleasant enough. Some nice chats with new people, the stand was in full sunshine so it was nice and warm, and big brother and I managed to do twelve pages of edits. All in all not a wasted day at all. The good thing was that we didn’t need to pick up a donation for a change, so yay!
We did unload most of the stuff, but all in all managed to prepare some food and end the afternoon and evening at the normal time.
Saturday was of course used for edits followed by pouring the last bit of the new kitchen floor. Did have to go out for our weekly food donation pickup for the dogs after that, and since we didn’t have time to finish it grandpa did the honors on that last bit of smoothing the fresh concrete. Technically the whole floor is done now. Yay.
There was time spent in the yard, of course, watering young seedlings, planting more seedlings, and checking everything for caterpillars. It was wonderful down there, I tell ya, and I, for one, wouldn’t have minded to stay in the yard for a bit longer, but nope. There was other stuff to do. *sigh*
Trimmed grandpa’s beard. He’s been asking for several days, and we finally got around to it. Very specific, grandpa. I shouldn’t make his face look narrow by making his beard to short, and I shouldn’t make it square either. Hah. Ended up with a neat little beard that I think he was happy with. He asked me to do his hair too, but since that wasn’t that long yet, I decided to leave that for now.
Normal chores such as feeding the dogs, and preparing their food were par for the course, naturally. Same goes for laundry and cooking, which involved fresh broccoli from the yard with cauliflower and rice. And yesterday…well, I can’t remember, but we ate anyway. Hah.
This afternoon we finally got around to cleaning out Chaos’s ears…poor Basset still isn’t feeling well, and I fear that if this keeps up I might need to visit the vet one of these day. *sigh* Also Arthur’s ears, and Carla’s. Sometimes we seem to have an epidemic thing going with the friggin’ ears, but then I see Kollossus dive onto Jelly, and see just how they get wrecked ears. Jeez. She’s vicious pulling on the appendage.
Went for a run. Yay. I needed one, despite the fact that my friggin’ foot hurt like a biatch these past few days. You never guess what I discovered yesterday, though. While I was massaging my foot, I discovered a slight discoloration in my sole, and once I dug that open with a needle, I removed a strange black thread that stuck about a quarter of an inch into my foot. Yikes. Talk about weird. Suddenly I wasn’t all that surprised about the swelling in my foot, or the fact that it had been so friggin’ painful for the past few days. Grrr. Still don’t know what the thread was. Big brother took it from me to look at it in the light, but then lost it. Aaaargh.
The run didn’t go altogether bad, just not as long as I’d planned, since the recovering foot didn’t fully agree with the exercise.
Tadaika behaved well this weekend. Her pitiful wanderings in the evening are getting shorter now that she has realized that she can sleep on the bed all night, and in the mornings she takes a few minutes to crawl up to my side and rub me awake by pushing her full weight into me. *snort* Seriously, when she presses her head into my shoulder, it feels like someone’s giving me a knuckle massage.
Well, this is going to be it for me. The new year has started while I wrote the blog, so…
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Let’s make it a good one, even if it kills us, eh?
