Song of the day is Daniel Beddingfield’s song with the chorus that goes: “I’m not dead.” For the life of me I don’t know the title, but it’s been tumbling through my head all morning. I think it’s a bonus track, ‘cause I doubt that this is the song that can be called “A kiss without commitment” hah.
So we’re going to do this fast because I’m home alone as of yet, and a friend has come for a visit and is cooling her heels while I do this.
The past couple of days have been busy I just can’t seem to fit everything in, no matter how well I plan it.
Had a few better edits, and the scenes are working smoothly again, which is a relief if nothing more. We’re getting, slowly, closer to halfway through. Yay.
Niobe, the sick dog at the vet, is still losing blood through a variety of orifices, and when they continued to insist that it was parvo, while I was sure that the symptoms and scent didn’t ring true, I insisted on a test. Turns out I was right: The test was negative, so now we’re facing the mystery of what the problem is, seeing as Morpheous (Niobe’s brother) has the same symptoms. Drat! It better not be something that is ridiculously contagious, ‘cause we would be pretty screwed if more dogs get it.
It does concern me, however, that I am starting to get better at recognizing a problem in a dog than the vet. This is the third time I was right, you know. A uterus infection for Iris, when they claimed it wasn’t. Kidney and liver failing for Lapis, when they thought it was Leishmania, and now the two crossbreeds. It is rather disturbing, I admit.
We started putting in tubing, down in the yard, getting it all ready for summer. Only one more fruit tree needs to sprout leaves now, by the way, so that’s a relief. The new Kiwis are doing really well, they’re already in full leaf, and that while it has been only a week or two since they’re in the ground.
Tomatoes are doing splendid, even in places where they just came up without warning. That’s the magic of having dogs who love eating fresh veggies. What with them eating tomatoes as if they think it’s meat, seeds are all over the place. Hah.
We now have a fist sized cabbage, and three huge lettuces that are going to supply us with a week’s worth of salads. Yep, all in all, the yard is keeping us nicely busy.
As for other chores, there’s the laundry of course, but I won’t bore you with the details (you can thank me later, hah) cleaning house, cooking and of course treating wood for what is soon going to be our greenhouse. It’s not easy getting a crap load of nails and screws out of the second hand wood we managed to get our hands on, but it is well worth the effort.
Yesterday, I finally managed to fit in a couple of hours to work on Bommel. The poor bobtail really needed to have his fur trimmed, so now he looks like a bent old rat, but much happier for it. For some reason the longhaired dogs always get cheerier when they’re trimmed.
Our tenant did her exercises well, so those were a few more well spent hours, Knight needed some extra attention, because, let’s face it, he’s still a moron.
Grandpa and big brother’s gate is almost done, there have been trips to the vet to visit Niobe, and soon Morpheous too, since big brother is dropping him off at the vet’s.
Well, time for me to head on down into the yard and water the new seedlings. The sun is shining and after unloading another batch of sand this morning, I’m looking forward to a round through the new growths. Yay.
Notice:
I can't predict when I have the time to post a new blog, but check occasionally. I'm going to try at least weekly.

Planting.
Song of the day:...some sort of classic tune that has no lyrics and which I don’t know the composer of, darn it; it just keeps going through my head. Not Vivaldi’s four seasons, though. Hah.
It’s been a busy couple of days, and since the weather was downright splendid, it wasn’t a strange thing at all. Tuesday the sun was out, the wind was up from the North and the temperatures were chilly…but the sun was out so who gives a fig! Yay. I really hurried through the morning rituals, especially since I’d overslept (something is up with my alarm, it’s making funny noises, or none at all) got a massive load of laundry done and headed out into the yard.
Seriously, getting down to the lower terraces, which are really in the lee of the mountain wind, it took me less than half an hour to start divesting layers…all six of them, until I ended up with only a long sleeved T that did just fine while we started digging out the edge of the terrace.
The dogs really do not appreciate yard work, I tell ya; they would love nothing better than being right beside us, digging up dirt with extreme enthusiasm, if we let them. Since it would rather beat the purpose of getting a veggie garden going, we resorted to locking them up into the courtyard on center garden instead, which causes a bit of resentment at times. Poor doggies; here us mean humans are keeping them from wrecking young plants by barging through them every five seconds. Hah.
Over the years, erosion has been sending down mud and dirt, which means that there was a lot of stuff to dig out before we reached the sand/rock bottom. We’re going to put down the aqua duct soon, and that’s where it’ll be. We had fully planned to do other tasks in the upper yard, but the sunshine was really too good to pass up on, so we decided to get six trees and put them in the ground before going up.
Of course, by the time we were done putting them in, we figured we might as well finish them all off, and had the younger sibs take them down from grandpas place. It was actually a wonderful afternoon, all in all, and we did manage to get all the plants in. There was a discussion between all, where we went over our options, and in the end we all decided to just take the full risk, rather than just “trying it out”; big brother and I went out to the nursery to get another handful of trees for the yard.
Got a pear, peach, plum and several more citruses, which we put into the ground today…yeah, I know, getting ahead of myself there. Can’t help it really, I’m a teeny bit cross-eyed and bedtime is lurking about the corner and me wants it…bad! Hah.
But anyway, since we were out to get the trees anyway, big brother and I decided to make another rock haul trip while we were out anyway, and managed to pile in a small load. We were running a bit behind, though, and we didn’t get home until after eight, which meant that we had to hurry through dinner and get our butts behind the computer for the read-through edit of “W.I. The White Doves” fast. Ten pages got done, like today (…okay, getting ahead again, sorry) before time was up and we had to leave again for the scavenge.
For some reason we stumbled on the cops, Guardias in this case, who demanded to know what we were doing in the area. It was kind of humorous, really, seeing as fully unintended big brother and I ended up chorusing our responses to the questions asked.
Let me give a demonstration of the conversation, which was in Spanish, I might add.
Me: “Ola!”
Guardia: “Do you live here?”
Me (big brother too): “Nooooh” rather startled too, since we were in an industrial area and it took a moment for the old noggin’ to translate the question. It almost sounded rehearsed.
Guardia: “Where do you live?”
Me (big brother too): Up the mountain, over there-ish,” pointing vaguely north while mentioning the area. The copper’s interest dropped a notch with the realization that we were annoying foreigners who didn’t “do” the language. Hah.
Guardia: “What are you carrying?” while aiming his flashlight in my face and then at the back of the car. It takes us another moment for us to translate the words.
Me (big brother too): “Wood…metal…ehm, oh yeah, garbage.” All in Spanish, remember. I could almost hear the interest drop another ten degrees. He flicked off the light, muttered an, “Okay, fine. Go!”
Which earned him a chorused, “Oh, good. Gracias,” before I drove off, and cast big brother a questioning glance. So weird, felt rather surreal.
Well, with that eventful trip behind us, I crashed for the night, actually managed six hours and a half and woke to another semi-sunny day that was spent putting in the new trees and some strawberries. We also managed to find sweet Italian peppers, our favorite melon seeds and chamomile. All should be going in the ground soon. Hah.
Every available spot is no harboring a fruit tree, leaving lots of room for further vegetable patch. I’ve gotta admit that the lower garden is really starting to look interesting. I’m most curious as to what is going work well ‘round here, and what not.
Our friend came for a nice visit today, and enjoyed basking in the sun while were chatting and putting in trees and such.
Considering we were done planting the trees before the day was through, the younger siblings and I hauled rocks down to where the outside kitchen is going to be, and while the continued doing so, I started chopping out a gutter of rock for the foundation of the concrete floor we need to pour first.
Since big brother was repairing his office chair, little brother and I headed out with the car for another batch of rocks, and loaded up fully in the last beams of daylight that were getting obstructed by clouds again. It looks like there is more rain coming, which means that, grocery shopping will be done either tomorrow, or the day after. If the weather is remotely good, it will be on Friday, but if we can’t do anything outside tomorrow, well, then we might as well get to it.
This evening was spent on the W.I.s again…I really need to get back in swing with the edit, and doing that read-through is essential in many ways. I forgot to do this blog this afternoon, so I really had to squeeze it in at the ending, so hopefully it’s remotely legible.
Well, I’ve got to hit the sheets before the floor hits me, so I’m outta here.

Faking it...
I really am; I'm running way behind.
Song of the day: “Spice up your life” by (gulp) the Spice Girls...I know, I’m embarrassed, really. Hah. Just kidding, they’re not THAT bad, just…well The Spice Girls.
So yeah, I’m sitting her trying to think of what to write about today, and I’m drawing a complete blank, very annoying that. I mean, I know that yesterday’s weather was a tad disappointing, but since we had a friend visiting it wasn’t all bad. Chattered a lot, showed off all the work, naturally. ‘Tis the beauty of visitors, of course. You really can’t do a good show off towards those who are there every day, so you gotta wait for the right occasions (such as this one) every time.
She was of course properly impressed, which made it worth the waiting. Hah.
Seriously though, project wise we didn’t complete any massive ones in the last couple of days. There was painting, sanding, planing and general woodwork going on all over the place.
The new balustrade for the patio is almost done, and my new shelving (hung it the day before yesterday and it was almost disastrous…I’ll get to it later on…maybe) has been painted during the course of the past three days.
There were several more trips for rocks, the piles are growing again, two nights with too little sleep, because the days just don’t have enough hours in them, and one night of trying to sleep in (only getting an extra twenty minutes or so). There was laundry, of course, I cooked dinner, like, twice…today fried rice with veggies on the side. I loved it. Very dry kernels in curry spices with onion, garlic, mustard seeds and coconut shavings and a really big helping of chopped peanuts. Seriously, just thinking back of it is making my mouth water all over again.
We had an emergency trip with Njanna (Golden Retriever) did I mention that before…gawd my brain is like mush today…and the vet removed a tumor/infection the size of four hamburgers. Poor Njanna, he really didn’t like it that we left him at the hospital for the night, but with a big row of stitches on his hip he is back at home and all is well again.
Other than that, nothing interesting going on really…well, except for big brother and going off the road almost. Phew. That was a close call. Somehow we ended up going up a steep rock incline and just barely made it back to the road. I blame it on the rain really. Could hardly see more than ten feet ahead of the car. Luckily we had 4x4 Land Rover, ‘cause any normal ditzy car would have either crashed and burned against the rock wall, or toppled over. Now all we have to show for it is a few scratches on the bumper and a sore knee for me. *sigh*
There was very little writing these past few days, like I said before, just not enough hours in the day, darn it.
I should really get to it right now, so I’m cutting this short. Who knows, I might actually manage some pictures soon. *sigh*

Busy, busy, busy. :-)
Let’s do this really quick, ‘cause I’m “on the run”, hah.
Songs of the day: (I’m alternating between two) “One way or the other” by Sophie Ellis-Bextor and “Another one bites the dust” by Queen. I find them rather appropriate considering I’m attacking rusty bolts, hah.
Yesterday was basically filled with all sorts of activity and just good ol’fashioned fun, since we had visitors. Not much work got done because of it, so there really isn’t much to tell. The weather, however, was downright beautiful…especially compared to today. *sigh*
There was a the rather adventurous trip towards Marbella where we got lost because…well the person leading towards the address we had to go, kept getting lost. We did arrive at the location, though, and carried the donations of furniture down five long flights of stairs (without breaking a sweat, either up or down, by the way, yay) before we headed home again.
I finally got around to finishing the last two kitchen cabinets for the kitchen, phew. They should go in by tomorrow…because today we have to go to the vet with Nanook (malamute husky) who has a growth between her toes.
Today started with mechanics, we’re finally getting around tearing down the engine of the old wreck standing uselessly on the outskirts of our property. We’re going to have to take the whole thing apart if we want to lug it away at some point…and it is kind of fun, sorta anyway. I keep wrecking my knuckles on the darn thing.
Well that was it. Gotta go.
