Muddling through

Song of the day: “We Can’t Stop” by Miley Cyrus with Jimmy Fallon and Roots. Heard it yesterday. It’s completely A Capella. Very cute. Took me by surprise, really.

I know, I’ve been slacking in my blogging duties. But seriously, often when I get to bed I’m too tired to do more than stare at my computer screen, maybe chat a little, and then I basically pass out for the night. The thing is, I can’t even write this thing in one go, been trying to get it done for three days now, so…Anyways…

It doesn’t help that I worry a lot about Dax, who isn’t doing much better, but big brother and grandpa are doing their utmost to keep him from doing more damage. The little bugger is making a nuisance of himself. The moment they turn their backs, he’s trying to get on the tables, cupboards, counters, roof, walls and out into the yard. Apparently he’s a handful…of course.

As for the bad news, a good friend of mine was in hospital last week with a terrible case of shingles. She’s back home now, and hopefully doing a lot better. (Best wishes to you Mags!)

What have I been up to, I hear you wonder…well, for a while it was us again. Big brother was here for a whopping five days, which made work a lot more pleasant. There was a lot to do, including mowing of the lawn, working with the animals, and loads of repairs. Actually wasn’t tired for a day or two there, seeing as the load was divided for a change.

Been doing some woodwork, which kept me semi-sane, for as far as that is possible, anyway. Nothing can quite keep the mind occupied as figuring out how to put a piece of furniture together. It was good…that and starting on an inventory so everyone knows what is where and what we have.

The woodwork was two small pedestals for PCs. They’re identical, they’re stable, so that works. Added to that I’ve made brackets in the shed, where we can store the wood away from any flooding which tends to come into the shed when hard rains come in from the east.

Been having very little time for myself lately, so not a lot of writing got done. I’m hoping that after this blog I’ll be able to do at least something, seeing as today was not a maintenance day, but working with animals instead…including cleaning, but that’s not too bad. It’s a nice change, and at least I’ve been able to give my feet some down time.

The weather is turning, winter rapidly approaching. It’s been raining a lot. And there are lots of clouds. I did see the sun occasionally, which was bliss, but on the overall it is just gray with lots of green that is slowly turning yellow with autumn. I’m not doing too badly, concerning the drop in temperature. I mean, I’m wearing sweaters now, over flannel shirts and tops, but still, I’m not whining too much, and when the cold gets too much for me, I just roll into the bathtub until I feel warm again. *sigh*

Have been doing some reading on my tablet. Jennifer Crusie, mostly, since big brother stocked up on those when he gave it to me. Only two or three more of her to go and then I’ll start on the Amanda Quick’s I think.

Been doing fence work, which was definitely one of the highlights this week.
Big brother was still here, and the rain hadn’t started yet, not much anyway, so we got a nice amount done. About ninety feet of fence, dug into the earth about 1 foot. I liked it. Fencing, for some peculiar reason, always feels very satisfying.

Do have a rather disturbing thing going at the moment. Yesterday, during the night, every time I turned in my sleep I’d wake up dizzy as heck. Have been nauseous ever since, and nothing seems to be helping much, least of all this faint, pounding headache in the front of my skull. Wish I had dried Juniper berries, that at least would take care of the nausea.
Can’t help but wonder what it is, though. Stress? A bug? Whichever the case, it is vastly annoying.

Worked on getting an Aga fired up…wasn’t easy either, but I got it done…thankfully. Haven’t had time to cook on it, though, which should happen soon enough…like tomorrow. Got it on Friday, which was fish and chips day (for me spring roll and chips, but what the hey. LOL) and then today there were veggies that had to be used, while I wasn’t at the main house to cook. *sigh* Wasn’t happy with today’s meal either. The taste wasn’t good enough. Needed a sauce but I didn’t feel like making it.

Been hosing down terraces again, and a wooden pergola, which I’ve got clean about a quarter. Luckily it goes rather well with the high pressure machine. A lot of work, though, not to mention that it is bound to leave the one doing it soaking wet. *sigh*

Trimmed some plants, bound up roses, did loads of walking, which would explain why my feet are killing me again…also, I decided to start drinking a little less wine, and since that has anti-inflammatory properties, that might have something to do with it. I could of course just start again, but seriously, a bottle of wine a day is not a dependency I want to deal with at the moment. Added to that, even though it is nice to be numb in the evening, it does not improve on my state of mind during the course of the day. *sigh*

Don’t have a lot else to talk about. My mind is still an emotional wreck, but that is nothing new, my body apparently as well (duh) so…I guess I’ll just have to muddle on through and see where it’ll all get me, eh?

I’ll keep you informed.

Ever, ever, EVER...

Song of the day: “Halo” by Beyonce, and “Crazy” by…hmmm, gotta check that. Oh yeah, Patsy Cline. I don’t know why, but for some reason that one is popping up every now and then during the course of today.

Let’s get this over and done with, I’ve been way too distracted these past few weeks, and need to catch up on the edits because I’m behind on schedule. Though the reading is going fine, making the alterations on the computer is quickly backing up.

I can, once again, not keep my days straight, so you’re just going to have to use your imagination and figure out where which activity happened.

I do know that the majority of today was spent in the old horse paddock sorting through our glass supplies. What with the greenhouse done, and lots of glass having suffered through the winter there were shards all over the place, and not a single clue as to what we still have. Considering that I do want to (at some point anyway) make my bedroom southwest wall completely of glass, I need to know about the amounts we have available. We just might have enough, but we’ll have to wait and see ‘bout that.

Luckily I ended up with only three or four cuts in my fingers (I remembered to wear gloves for a change) but since my hands were already cut up from working with the brambles and bougainvillea, they aren’t as appreciative as I’d like. Hah.

Suffice it to say that the stacks are neat again, and the new brackets we put up are sturdy enough to hold the lot for a while yet. We’ll get the paddock neat yet…I hope.

Since Knight II once again decided to take his bandage off (I still don’t dare leaving it uncovered, especially not now that he no longer needs his cone) I had to rebind the stub. Poor darling just let me, and lay there with his head a mere inch away from where I was messing with his tail. Let me do it too without a single complaint. Good Knight.

This night I had a rather annoying dream about the past, definitely not something worth sharing here since it is merely one of frustration and muddled memories that I won’t bother sharing. It wasn’t interesting at all, so…whatever.

There was a long afternoon spent in the yard, which I found absolutely wonderful. The sun had come out, even though both this morning and yesterday morning were downright pitiful with clouds and mist. We planted potatoes, weeded around chard and fruit trees alike, allowing for black plastic to be put around (the trees that is) to keep future weeds away. Still several to go, but we’re getting there.
I put up some more little reed fences to protect the new patch, because let’s face it, the dogs won’t stay out of it unless something sturdy is stopping them.
While weeding, I found a wealth of veggies hiding in the lower garden. Onions, leek, chard (of course) and even some of the herbs are coming back up, which is absolutely grand.

What else. Well, besides the yard work, there was some stuff to be done in the greenhouse. We’ve got pumpkins and tomatoes that need to be hardened for the cool outside air in the next week or two. This means that we have to take them out in the morning, let them be outside during the day and then get them back inside around nightfall. They’ll have to “cowboy up” eh? Hah.

There were of course edits, and since they’ve been going the way I already said they did, I won’t elaborate further. *sigh*

Oh Gawd, almost forgot. We basically finished my laundry table/shelves today. Sure the dirty laundry baskets still need to be put together and hung underneath it, but the basic frame is in place and it looks grand. Yay. It holds the wicker baskets and plastic ones perfectly. Almost like I measured them…which I didn’t, darn it. That was a close call. Phew.

Did laundry both days, of course. There’s loads of it, for some reason. Seriously, for some reason we’re turning two to three batches a day now, rather than just one to two. *sigh*

Made herbal cream cheese, and while I was at it, put on a big pot of pumpkin soup too. Both worked out grand, and will be a food source for several days I recon. Hah.

Which reminds me, that there was also a run squeezed in somewhere. The way up the mountain went rather miserable, I admit, but once we were back on our way down, I manage to run farther than I ever did before. Had me quite thrilled, actually, and somewhat in a “Oh my Gawd that is the first time I ever did that. Ever. Ever.” And so on and on, while trying to catch my breath and keep from fainting with the fierce pinch in my side. Hah. Seriously, though. It went well. And there I thought (slogging up the mountain) that I’d made no improvement at all these past few months.

Which sums up my couple of days. Feel free to pop in yours in the comment section. Hah.

Stair building...with pictures

Song of the day: “I’m in love” by Maria Mena. Still cute after more than a year where it passes frequently through my brain.

Don’t mind me, I’m in a rush again, and the past couple of days have been so friggin’ busy that I barely have had time to ponder what would be remotely fun to write about. So we’re going to stick with the usual, meaning that I’ll make a quick recount. Hah.

Oh, I did have a rather exciting dream the other day, but right now I don’t have time to write about it. It was a hot pursuit kind of thing, which is…well awesome. Maybe…no. Not now.

Okay, yesterday. No work day for the papers (I’m starting to get the feeling that the job is non-existent, and that, for some reason, I have not been informed of it. Weird) so we could do some real work at home. Hah. Yep, been pretty darn busy. While big brother tackled the planters by the greenhouse, we’ve got three now, I started on the stairs that lead down into the yard.

Gawd, my second attempt at making stairs and it is going rather splendidly if I do say so myself. In the past I always sucked at it (it is so very hard to get the steps straight and everything) but I thought what the heck, I’ll just learn it the hard way. Hah. So after that first practice round under the little gate, I got to it. Laid eleven steps down to the first veggie garden terrace, and after walking on them (repeatedly) today, they function rather well. Let’s see if I can get a picture up…

There you go.

Isn’t it gorgeous? I love the way it flows with the land. I can hardly wait to start with the next one, which will lead down the other side. Did I say that the plan is to have stairs all the way down (and up) the mountain? Well, it is, so I’ve got my practice worked out, don’t I. I can see the end result in my head and am more than a little curious if it will look that way.

Afterwards we had to take down a couple of eucalypti, which is not necessarily a bad thing, considering we’ll need a few for the Daewoo’s parking spot. Poor little zit can’t withstand the elements (there’s some leakage during heavy rains) so we’ll need to make it a cover. Much like a carport, only a little less civilized, since we don’t want to wreck the view. It would be such a shame if the beauty of the big trees gets destroyed.
Knight II almost got a falling tree on top of him, and looked at me reproachfully the rest of the evening. Seriously, he’s such a baby that way.

After that we headed out to get rocks for the future wall under the porch. Remember, the dratted floor is going down, so basically the wall is next on the list. Knight II is gradually gaining some guts in that regard and actually roamed a little while we loaded up. Who knows, within a few months I might actually need to start paying attention to him. In fact he started trailing the wild boar trail nearby. Hah.

There were edits, naturally. Still going steadily, and we’ve reached one third for real now. And I will get to it again tonight, of course.

I’m back to cleaning Touri’s ear. His infection is back, and he doesn’t like me at all at the moment. Ah well, what has to be done, has to be done.

There was pumpkin soup with bread, which is good. I have definitely come to love soup these days. Such an easy medium to fill your stomach. Not to mention tasty with bread to dip with.
Sleep was late in coming, (got distracted by other stuff) but what the heck. I can sleep when I’m dead.

Today.

Well it was another busy one. Little sister went to her job again and we went back down into the yard.

Tenant has developed a cough. No fun there, but we’re keeping track of it. I wish she liked a toddy, but since she doesn’t I’ll have to figure something else out. For now, she’s getting a thyme tincture and coughing syrup, along with teas and scented steam. Luckily, her spirits are relatively high and the aspirin to care of the most immediate problems of achy chest and the like.
She did insist on joining us downstairs, which I hadn’t expected. But apparently she didn’t feel as bad as I’d anticipated, since she preferred company.
The sun was out, so it was absolutely wonderful working outside, (both today and yesterday) sure the wind was extremely cool, but on both occasions I ended up working in only a short, sleeved T. Not surprisingly yesterday what with hauling huge stones and cement for the stairs, but today I worked fences.

Oh, didn’t I say? Our neighbor’s dog has been making a habit of riling our dogs up, so for safety measures we decided that it would be best for me to add another two feet to the fencing down below. This meant extending the existing poles, adding two more for safety reasons, and then putting the new piece of fencing up at a slight angle. Because, let’s face it, Sitabah is a disaster when it concerns fences and strange animals. I really don’t want to be the one to explain some sort of mishap. *sigh*

It was awesome working down there, by the way. There was the almost cloying scent of blooming almond trees, the budding “Common Broom” (I love their scent) and the wild thyme growing everywhere. I spent hours down there, the cool breeze drawing my eyes occasionally to the distant mountain where a steep roof of snow sparkled in the sun, and the trees whispering around me.
My dogs loved it just as much, considering they spent the majority of the day lounging in the high grass, and keeping track of me with only half an eye. Hah.

Once I was done with the fences, the raspberries (red and yellow ones) and brambles had to be planted, at which time big brother was done with the planters in the garden pit by the greenhouse and grandpa and I could start on cleaning in there.
If the weather holds, we might actually be able to paint the basin before the next rain. I’m keeping my fingers crossed on that one.

Didn’t finish cleaning up, but we made a dent in it before it was time to head out for another batch of rocks, letting Knight run a bit and then going inside for today’s blog. I did manage a shower this time, which was necessary, considering the activities. Hah.

Well, that’s about it. Time for me to wrap this up. I’ve got a book to finish after all.

Here’s a couple, just because.

Aren't they beauties. It's almost not real, right. Sonia, Chamea and Abacara. I just couldn't resist taking a picture.

And Knight II. Now do you get why I call him a moron? He doesn't have any pride, if you ask me. Look at the pose. He'll sleep that way, I tell ya. *sigh* No elegance whatsoever. Darn it.

Digging dirt

Song of the day: “Don’t marry her” by The Beautiful South. I downloaded three of their songs last night, ergo they’re in my head today. Hah.

Today’s Tuesday, right? That means that yesterday was Monday…right? I did mean it when I said that my memory fails me at times. Take the book I’m reading at the moment, I swore I read it, but then didn’t recognize a single scene up until page two-hundred. I swear, it’s because of my valium days. It is the only explanation. *sigh* Nasty to stuff.
Work got cancelled again, in case you’re wondering. I have called to the office, but I haven’t heard anything back yet. I find it massively weird, whatever the heck is going on over there. I’m going to send another email later tonight.

Okay, let’s get down to business. What’s been happened in the past two days…I do remember…I’m sure I do…ehm. Well. Yesterday was spent outside, mostly. We put up new fencing in the lower yard. There was this particular spot between the veggie garden and the bus where the dogs kept ripping through the thinner fence, jumping over it, and whatnot.

So we took the old section away and put up an entire new part (approximately 18 feet). Grandpa and I had to do it, of course, considering big brother still can’t use his back. But it went fast and well, and the dogs should not be able to get through it again now. Seriously, this is solid diamond fence stuff, and we put in a new pole as well to catch some of the slack. The only problem would be that they go to the next section of fence and try to go through there.
Ah well, we’ll deal with that when the time comes.

Big brother did hang the center table in the greenhouse and it looks rather nice. It made putting in the seventh and last table in today (I made it during the course of the morning) a little bit harder, but we did manage in the end. I’m going to take some pictures soon.

We had an excellent edit last night. Only 22 more pages to go, so, yay.

Good news for me: My foot didn’t hurt last night. Which makes it the second time in two months. Progress is marvelous. It appears that the inflammation of the cartilaginous bone that was produced on the outside of my heel is slowly healing at least.

We got rocks last night…grandpa and I did at least. Hah. Poor big brother. He’s feeling quite useless at the moment. On the most part he’s keeping busy with electric repairs and working on the moped some more.

The majority of my afternoon (today’s) was spent in the greenhouse, by the way. First arranging the new tables, then filling the big container Dani built the other day. Since we had this gutter on top of a wall beside what used to be the old pool, I was kept busy digging all the dirt and composting materials out. All of it together with a couple of wheelbarrows filled with fertilizer was enough to fill it, so I could plant three zucchini plants (one is unlikely to survive btw) before calling it a day. It looks rather grand, hence the promised pictures.

Touri is doing well. He no longer needs his cone, so he’s ecstatic most of the time. He is still favoring his leg, but I do occasionally see him use it. The vet says that it’s because the growth pressed on it, and thus the muscle became very thin.
He’ll get there.

Little sister got her first job today. She looked a wee bit tired afterwards, but according to her it went well. The people are paying her well, so it’s not a bad job on the overall, I just hope she likes it a little at least. It is so terrible to do a job you don’t enjoy. *sigh*

Hilarious tidbit about Chaos. He has this weird tendency to look for low hanging branches under which he’ll start walking (in slow motion, mind you). He and Knight II are the only ones who do this, you know. They literally pet themselves by doing that. It’s as if the feeling of leaves lightly stroking their fur is divine. They can sometimes stay at it for a solid fifteen minutes. Absolutely bonkers.

For the rest the days have been mostly chores and such. Nothing grand or extremely entertaining, just lots of STUFF. Well, I’ve got some personal messages to take care of, some Amazon discussions to get up to date to, and…well, edits of course. Who knows, maybe a miracle happens and we’ll finish it tonight. Hah.
